Mike Huckabee is through politically

That's the conclusion of NY Times columnist Tim Egan:

If this case does not sink the presidential aspirations of Huckabee, a leading Republican candidate, it should. By the standards that Republicans launched almost 20 years ago, Huckabee will be Willie Hortonized. But this case also shows, as with an earlier episode in Arkansas, that Huckabee’s judgment is seriously flawed.

If Huckabee were a liberal and a Democrat, he would be a punching bag for right wing blowhards an example of clueless, soft-on-crime politicians at their worst. Fox News would be stalking him, as they have others responsible for letting criminals out early.

Instead, he’s been allowed to get away with issuing a passive, blame-shifting statement. In the release, issued Sunday night, Huckabee takes no personal responsibility for letting Clemmons out early. Instead, he cites “a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington.”

Yes, a series of failures, resulting in the worst act of violence against law enforcement in the history of this state – four officers gunned down in “a targeted, selective ambush,” in Detective Troyer’s words.

A series of failures: starting at the top, with Gov. Huckabee.

“This is the day I’ve been dreading for a long time,” Arkansas prosecutor Larry Jegley told the Seattle Times. Jegley had strenuously objected to Huckabee’s granting of clemency to Clemmons.

Dumond and Clemmons are not Huckabee's only clemency screwups, as Arkansans well know. Some were worse than misguided compassion, but  favors for pals. Ah, but Huckabee has an advantage not available to Democrats when GOP hit man Roger Ailes created the issue of Willie Horton.

Ailes now runs Fox News. If they decide to hold the politician accountable for early release of a violent felon linked now to a death of four police officers, they know where to find him – in studio, as a Fox News host.

"Mike Huckabee is through politically"

Boss, some of us here on the blog have been telling you this for a very long time.

(DEMURELY) So we have. Too bad it took THIS tragedy, though.

If it's true, xmas came early.

From your keyboard to God's email. I've never understood the vanity of people who think they know what is another's heart. I just got in a big fight with bro-in-law who thinks Obama is evil. How do you know, I kept asking. How does a golf pro in Houston know more than anyone else about Obama? Or how did Huckabee know about this guy? Vanity, all is vanity.

But Huck just explained to Bill O'Reilly that it really, really wasn't his fault...it was the 'process' that ended those officers' lives. And, of course, those inept Washington state judges were guilty, too (he also tossed some accountability mud on one/two the Arkansas prosecutors for not filing the appropriate paper work in a timely manner). O'Reilly, OF COURSE, was appropriately impressed with Huck's willingness step up and explain why it wasn't his fault.

Now y'all know.

I'm not the one to defend Huckabee, but have they even found this guy? convicted him, yet? I've not been checking the news today.

>>Boss, some of us here on the blog have been telling you this for a very long time.<<

If he ever becomes an actual 'contendah' then they will have no problem Hortonizing Huck.

I sadly watched NBC Nightly News give Huckabuck a free pass with his statement about criminal justice system failures.

However PBS' News Hour was not so kind. They featured Jegley (in L.R.) clearly blaming the Huck.

I'm sure Crist, Jeb, Palin, Jindal and Romney are paying close attention.
.

Huckabee is an example of what is called the peter principle. And we have only the people who voted for him to blame. He's anything but what he claims to be.

It's been a wild and wacky 36 hours for our esteemed former governor.

He was the GOP frontrunner in 2012 against Mormon Mitt and Silly Sarah but seemed to be wagging his finger at the monied-establishment, saying he was "leaning toward not running'' as if to jolt them into doing the "right thing.''

Then, all hell breaks loose with one of his many clemency decisions. I'm actually surprised that there are only 2 who have killed after getting Huckabee's "forgiveness.''

Isn't karma a bitch, Reverend? Last count, you have a hand in 5 deaths.

I have a sneaky feeling karma/God isn't through with him yet.

Mike Huckabee is through politically...

Now we can give our full and complete attention to Caribou Barbie...

Governor Beebe should announce a new policy: no more grants of clemency to persons convicted of violent felonies, unless it is agreed to by the victims and the prosecutors.

Just read an update on Huffpo that said he was with his wife in a green Mazda headed for Arkansas.

Can Rev. Huck meet him at the state line and persuade him to accept Jesus, like he did in 1990 when Huck granted him clemency? I'm sure our good Rev/Ex Gov can talk some sense into him.

This has all been a huge misunderstanding. The poor feller just needs some Christian guidance from Huckabee.

Oops, meant 2000.

I'm wondering if Marion Humphrey is also through politically? In his letter to the board, he stated "I strongly support parole in this case due to the length of the sentence given". Apparently, Judge Humphrey gave no consideration to the other factors, like Clemmons' record of violent crimes, or the likelihood that he would return to those crimes upon release. Judge Humphrey should be held to the same standard of accountability as Huckabee.

As a libertarian-minded GOP voter, this is the best news I've heard in a long time! He's a likable enough media personality, but he's more a populist opportunist than a real conservative. Good riddance, Mike!

Huckafree is toast
come to Jesus set me free
Governor Hucked up

Clemmons is shot dead by Seattle police, according to kirotv.com.

Sad, but I think Huckabee was caught off-guard by the willingness of (anyone else but him) people to use public profession of faith as a meal ticket or a pretense for special treatment.

Go back to Max's thread(s) Sunday (?) and read the court records. in addition to the crimes for which he was tried and convicted, this man made a weapon out of a door hinge and sneaked into the courtroom with it in his sock, admittedly to try to harm the judge. Thankfully, a security guard saw it. But still.

He also had another weapon of some sort which he threw at his mother, in the courtroom.

He's on record as saying he was going to harm/get the judge.

He endangered everyone in the courtroom with his behavior.

I dont know how he got out on parole anyway, but he was obviously mentally unstable. in seattle, his relatives told reporters or the police, i forget, that he thought he was the messiah. Had a few other delusions and behaviors to indicate that things werent right. He had also raped a child in washington state.

It just doesnt take a genius to see that this is not a nice person, not someone we want walking around free. I dont get how you can go into a courtroom with a weapon after having threatened the judge and then commence to throwing weapons in the courtroom at anybody and then get out of jail early. He should never have been in Huck's rose garden or wherever waiting to pull his routine on huckabee, and anybody who read these court documents and gave him clemency............it doesnt make any rational sense to me.
