Night-night
Before we shut it down for the night (though David Koon may post again later), here's a press release from the Baxter County sheriff about the sentencing today of the woman who fled Arkansas after officials found 500 dogs in miserable condition on her property in Gameliel (see picture above of one of them). A Baxter County judge sentenced her to a year in prison and fined her $500 on each of 20 counts of animal cruelty. She also ordered to pay the Humane Society of the United States $500. Paltry (though the legal max), given the HSUS says it spent $100,000 on the rescue and placement of the dogs.
Now, an open line.

This really really pisses me off and makes me sick. How do they treat their kids, family members and friends? what goes on in their twisted minds??
incomprehensible. People who torture animals and people who molest, beat, torture children should just be killed - quickly. They shouldn't be allowed any parole, institutionalized in a mental hospital, or put on death row. I don't want my tax money paying to feed and keep them.

It would be interesting if Senator Snow (R-ME) would introduce a bill to change the Pledge so the last words read"...justice for some of the selected people" then we could legally discriminate against other groups that bug us and make it legal.
If we are going to have groups feel it is okay to deny rights to some then let's make it legal and we all can pick the group that we want to discriminate against. How about red-haired, left handed Baptists (southern variety).

There is a passel of the world's cutest fluffy kittens in all colors at the intersection of highway 300 and Spillway road, about a mile past Pinnacle Mountain. They seem very tame. They haven't been dropped off, just bred from some of the local cats with owners. If you're in that area, and you need a cute lovable kitten, please stop and get one.

OK, I have somewhat more experience than I want with the attitudes, though I know nothing about Ms. Hanson and these days know nearly nothing about Baxter County District Court.
The first thing to understand is that District Court is not a court of record, no court reporters, no official transcripts, and that the appeal to Circuit Court is trial de novo, which means that nothing happened. The bond requirements will last only until the first Circuit Court hearing, at which time everyone starts from day one.
There has been a bourgening no-kill mentality among the aminal-rescue folks up here in the hills, and from where I sit it is part and parcel of the human-worshipping, anti-abortion sentiment that motivates the half of the American electorate that are below average in intelligence.
Every thing, every one, now alive will someday die.
If you are the one to die that day, my descendants will think you less than one of Tammy Hansen's dogs.

GOOD one, CBB - I'm going after tailgaters - I want all tailgaters to have a T branded on their foreheads, and be denied Tuition Aid, a job making over $12K, MediCare/Aid and Social Security; their spouse too...should anyone have been unlucky enough to have MARRIED one! Would you want YOUR daughter to marry a tailgater or....GASP - BE one?!!

OK, I have somewhat more experience than I wanted to have with the attitudes. I know nothing about Ms. Hanson, and these days know nearly nothing about Baxter County District Court, which I assume to be a pilot program.
The first thing to understand is that District Court is not a court of record, no court reporters, no official transcripts, and that the appeal to Circuit Court is trial de novo, which means that nothing happened. The bond requirements will last only until the first Circuit Court hearing, at which time everyone starts from day one.
There has been a bourgeoning no-kill mentality among the animal-rescue folks up here in the hills, and from where I sit it is part and parcel of the human-worshipping, anti-abortion sentiment that motivates the half of the American electorate that are below average in intelligence. No one, nothing, should ever have to die. Especially not me.
For me, every thing, every one thing, now alive will someday die. It's just a question of when.
Tammy Henson will pass a lie-detector test to prove that she knew dogs, who should have died, that she kept alive for another day.
Life is sacred, not? Worthy of worship? Dogs so much as children?
Tammy Hanson and Sarah Palin are both saints for those who believe a certain way.

thats weird that district court here is de novo, not a court of record, because in oklahoma it is not.
And this was in the Johnson County Graphic today, in reference to seizure of 96 dogs, mostly, and a few cats, in Lamar recently. Lord, Lord, reading about two of these in one day is almost too much. I wish I knew how to type paragraph #3 in bold but I dont. Im certain there is a special corner of hell for people who abuse animals and the fact that this is the first time the new animal cruelty law has been enforced. this is not what Lamar wants to be known for, Im sure. Link should be on my name except Im computer illiterate, so I put it at the end too.
Two county residents, Christine Yarrington, 60, and Lynn Burkett, 51, were arrested by Johnson County Sheriff's Office personnel Thursday, Oct. 29. The arrests were a result of an animal seizure case that occurred Oct. 6 at the women's residences on County Road 2621.
Each woman is charged with eight counts of aggravated animal cruelty, a Class D felony punishable by zero to six years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections and/or a fine up to $10,000.
According to Shannon Lemly, a Johnson County Humane Society board member, the arrests of the women and the following charges are the first to occur under the states' new felony animal cruelty law adopted in 2009.

Here is a great opportunity to make an investment in Fayetteville real estate!
Seriously, a friend has moved out of state from F'ville and would really like to sell her house so she can buy something else in her new town. She has dropped the price to way below appraisal. This would make a great rental property investment. Check it out and find a buyer.
If I had the money, I would buy it for an investment...especially if I lived in the area.

In New Jersey, Republican Chris Christie pulled out a surprisingly comfortable victory over a better-financed incumbent. In Virginia, Republican Bob McDonnell won an impressive victory touting what he could do to create more jobs.
In both cases, the key to victory was in who showed up. Put another way, the young people who fueled Barack Obama's historic presidential victory last year stayed home.
In New Jersey in 2008, the under-30 vote made up 22% of the electorate. One year later, the tally dropped to 8%.
And in Virginia, the under-30s made up 10% of this year's election, down from 21% when Obama was at the top of the ticket.
All of which may be another way of saying that Obama had enough charisma to overcome the historic apathy of the youth vote.
The issue for Democrats this morning: how to get the vote folks back before the 2010 elections.

News lately has been so DISTRESSING.
But who could have seen THIS coming?
Remember Carrie Prejean? Dethroned Miss California USA Queen? Darling of Christians for maintaining her faith in opposite marriage?
Remember Carrie's million dollar lawsuit against the Miss California USA officials?
The reason you haven't heard more about it is because it was hastily dropped.
Turns out there was a sex tape.
I love Carrie but I hate her sin. HATE her sin, I tell you.
Is she reading this? I'm sticking pins in a Barbie doll with your name on it in Magic Marker as we speak, Carrie.
Wouldn't it be funny, honey, at your next opposite marriage Christian rally where you're addressing 3000 faithful with state of the art A/V equipment and big screens on both sides of your pulpit, if the techie up in the booth, instead of playing the slo-mo DVD of the American flag undulating in the breeze above amber waves of grain, accidentally played a DVD of your poon-porn instead?
Adeste fideles, sweetheart.

I wasnt able to be there last year but I must say, DBI, that is very selfish and I would've expected more from you. Especially if you'd had a few. j/k
I thought lie detector tests were not admissible in court, but Im sure that old heifer could pass one.
someone who knew what they were talking about told me a long time ago that animal shelters had to weed out people who were "collectors" -- maybe they already had 24 dogs, but they had always wanted a _________ (Great Dane, Saint Bernard, mini doxie, etc.........doesnt matter) and even though rationally they knew they couldnt afford it, they tried to adopt dogs anyway, as if they temporarily forgot that they have to be fed and taken to the vet and stuff. I cant stand those pictures either. I dont know how you try to weed them out either, I guess that's a trade secret.
for a while we bred Labs and I embarrassed my children horribly a few times, imagine that, by refusing to sell a dog to someone or seeing someone I vaguely knew coming and maybe quadrupling the price. But that is a mother's job, to mortify her child, especially if she is doing the right thing anyway. And even if I wasnt I thought I was. Some dumb heifer told me that "the last time her and her girlfriends had went to Tunica for the weekend," someone killed her dog because it was running his cattle, and she wanted one of my babies? Not in this lifetime, sister. i also called the shelter and reported her because she could never afford to fence as much land as the poor SOB who had married her had. I guess maybe you can tell i didnt like her very much.
But I still cried when she told me her dog died, and if i dont quit and go back to work Ill cry again over a dog I never met and the possibility that this ignorant woman could possibly have acquired another one. she was the sort of mother who, when her son acts like a jackass and gets a technical foul in a sixth-grade basketball game, immediately blames the referees, loudly, and then gives the coaches hell for benching the kid. uh.......lady........

Then last month, in a retaliatory strike in the "pageant wars," the Miss California producers countersued Prejean over those breast implants.
Pageant organizer "K2 Productions" alleged Prejean owed $5,200, for breast implants the pageant paid for at Prejean's request. According to the suit, Prejean requested the surgery "to be more competitive" at the 2009 Miss USA pageant, and further, agreed to repay the loan that "K2 Productions" fronted.
Seems the parties figured that one out, too.
Their joint statement says Prejean and the pageant "wish each other the best in their future endeavors."

[rant] Don't any of these people (animal abusers) have *neighbors*, or are all their neighbors blind? Doesn't anyone who sees an animal or child (or spouse or stranger) being abused have a duty to *DO SOMETHING*? Hell, I want to call the cops when I see someone making an un-signalled turn (while talking on their effin' phone), but they're gone before I can get a license number. If I knew that my neighbor or even my *best friend* had a kennel full of pooches in that condition, I wouldn't hesitate to get the authorities out there. Who needs that kind of neighbor or "friend"--or *relative*, for that matter?[/rant]
In this case, "throwing the book at them" only amounts to a few leaflets. We need bigger books.

Former UK ambassador: CIA sent people to be 'raped with broken bottles'
The CIA relied on intelligence based on torture in prisons in Uzbekistan, a place where widespread torture practices include raping suspects with broken bottles and boiling them alive, says a former British ambassador to the central Asian country.
Craig Murray, the rector of the University of Dundee in Scotland and until 2004 the UK's ambassador to Uzbekistan, said the CIA not only relied on confessions gleaned through extreme torture, it sent terror war suspects to Uzbekistan as part of its extraordinary rendition program.
"I'm talking of people being raped with broken bottles," he said at a lecture late last month that was re-broadcast by the Real News Network. "I'm talking of people having their children tortured in front of them until they sign a confession. I'm talking of people being boiled alive. And the intelligence from these torture sessions was being received by the CIA, and was being passed on."

Well...didn't we have a great time a year ago tonight! It was a night that changed the world. And really, it must be said again...George W. Bush and Dick Cheney FK'ed up so badly that America of all places elected a black man with a most un-American sounding name. Now that is some FK'ing up indeed. Warren G. Harding and Millard Fillmore are giggling in their graves so thankful that Cheney-Bush moved them up a notch on the list of stinky presidents.
Unfortunately, this last year was a killer. As we partied down at the Rumba a year ago....little did we know that the world economy would nearly collapse due to crooks in the US banking system. We knew we had 2 wars that Obama would stop the minute he got into office, but we didn't count on a global recession-depression and we didn't expect bailouts for people that should have been rounded up and shot.
Of all the surprises of the last year, the one that worries me most is the lack of bringing 1%er criminals to justice. The guilty on Wall Street were punished by gifts of money in amounts I never knew existed before. The guilty parties of the Bush administration are thriving today publishing books, going on the lecture circuit, being paid to appear on TV. While we get off on trashing a crazy woman who kept too many dogs. Where is the justice for those responsible for the giant mess we're in today? Remember the aftermath of Katrina? Hope Bill asked Bush about that one in the upcoming debate.
Where will we be a year from tonight? Will Obama race forward or stagnate? The idiot Republican Cult thinks they won big yesterday and will be insufferable for months. I don't think they won squat and I sure don't think Obama had anything to do with New Jersey or Virginia. It's just sad that the Cult will feel emboldened....they'll make more noise and trouble now.
I should have flashed jazzy last year, but it was my coming out party and I was as nervous as a cat treading water. I was afraid to get into a penis contest with Frenchie, I didn't want to lose on such a winning night. Maybe next time, OK?

Never forget, [How Two Elections Changed America]
"But the course of American history took a sharp turn on Nov. 4, 1979, exactly three decades ago, when radical Iranian students stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and took scores of Americans hostage. Eventually, the Iranians would hold 52 of those Americans through the U.S. presidential election and would release them only after Ronald Reagan was sworn in on Jan. 20, 1981."
...
"Reagan, supported by Kissinger and others, has no intention of resolving the problem," Ghotbzadeh said. "They will do everything in their power to block it."
Six days later, on Sept. 22, Saddam Hussein's Iraqi army invaded Iran, intensifying Iran's need for U.S.-made military equipment but also adding another complexity to the crisis."
...
"In the final weeks before Election 1980, FBI wiretaps picked up other evidence that connected Rockefeller associates with two of the key suspects in the October Surprise mystery, Iranian banker Cyrus Hashemi and longtime Casey business associate John Shaheen.

These animal abusers DO NOT have neighbors, really. as unreasonable as it seems to you city folks, around these parts you can live on five acres or ten, five or 20 miles out of town, and you won't see your neighbors -- you wont exactly invite them over for coffee and a visit if you have a puppy mill or maybe a meth lab in the back. The meter readers will NOT linger at your house, believe me. The ambience, or lack thereof, will start at the long driveway and meter readers will be happy as hell to get out of there. Although it does seem that 96 dogs in a trailer would make enough noise that a meter reader would notice, doesnt it?
Thats why there are so many meth labs in Newton County, for one thing. there are places that trucks can't go.
