Over the hump
You take it from here.
Social notes: CNN's John King is at Doe's. Columnist Joe Conason, who's working on a book on the post-presidential Bill Clinton, can be spotted there before too long, too. He'll be in the company of a gentleman rancher from Perry County, his "The Hunting of the President" co-author Gene Lyons.

Michael Moore says Democrats' healthcare bill is giveaway to insurance industry
In a speech broadcast on Canadian television Tuesday, Michael Moore savaged the Democrats' healthcare bill, calling it a gift to the health insurance industry, which he argues will make $70 billion more as a result of mandated health insurance.
"The health insurance companies are going to make an extra $70 billion dollars as a result of Americans being forced to buy their health insurance," Moore quipped. "What company wouldn't love this bill?"

Can anybody recommend a good shoe store to find a serious pair of walking shoes in LR or Fayetteville? I need somebody to help me pick the right pair for my gait and weight.
Thanks.

Bugeyed:
The New Balance store on Hwy 10 near Kroger has a good selection and knowledgeable sales people. At least they were when I was there a little over a year ago.

I used the store in the old fire station just off No. College Ave to get a pair of Brooke sneakers. Kinda pricey for me but in retrospect, given my thick feet with high arches, it was worth it. They go to great lengths to see that you buy the right platform for your size, arch and instep and the way you walk.
Turn E right next to Flying Burrito (once was Ihop). Store/Fire station is first building on L.
Just returned from taking sweetie to the ER. She was vomiting with diarrhea and fell. It all happened so fast. She suspects swine flu. We did a home triage and all is ok but I insisted because she stayed ghost-like white and in her post operative condition, not a time for chances.
Helluva New Moon on 17th.

Thanks eL. Sounds like what I need.
Tonight there was a very thin sliver of moon about to set as we wrapped up the walk.
We're meeting the Fockers in Fayetteville next week. I shall look that store up. I've gotten some major caffeine buzzes at that Ihop.

Elwood:
Hope your sweetie will be OK. Best to have her in the hospital where she can get care, if needed.
I am recovering from the swine flu myself. At least, I am guessing swine flu since I had the regular flu shot a month or so ago. Never did have the vomiting, but I had severe chills, headache, body ache, fever and diarrhea. Came down with it on Friday, and today is the first day that I have felt really good and actually had an appetite.

(sorry) If you do go to Walking Company be SURE to check out the socks. Pricey, and worth every penny: Thorlo, the house brand, SmartWool and a bamboo sock that is dreamy (can't recall the brand name)!!!!! If you find a pair you really like, you can get them cheaper at the Sock Company (online). G'night.

jazzy, a food author in NYT did an article last year on the demise of creamed peas. I don't recall the writer's name but I recall remarks how so many foods were "creamed" during the 50s. I once filled little french pastry tarts with curried creamed peas as a quickie to fancy up an otherwise boring dinner. I creamed them using butter and root starch, then added small amounts of yellow curry. Pastry tart shells come frozen courtesy of Mrs. Smith.
Just don't mention creamed spinach to me. The famous Bush restaurant in Chickenopolis, AQ Chicken House
featured creamed spinach for years. The restaurant features large pictures of George W. Bush who joined the owners for dinner more than once while raising MoMoney in Chickenopolis. The stench still lingers so I avoid the place.
So, after my nervous rambling you might go to NYT..on clicky..and search creamed peas.

eLwood, I am guessing that Jazzy was referring to a form of black-eyed peas that our family knows as either Lady Peas or Cream Peas. They are smaller than purple-hull or crowder peas and, yes, they are tasty indeed. A drawback is you have to pick and shell a heck of a lot of them to make a "mess." We are purple-hull devotees in our family. Wish I had some on the table tonight.

Jazzy,
I love cream peas, too. Haven't seen them in the fresh or dry form in a very long time, but have found canned cream peas in the grocery store. Can't remember the brand, but I believe it was Kroger where I found them.

It's hard to realize, eLwood, that 60 years ago AQ Chickenhouse was the premier restaurant in Northwest Arkansas. It represented 5-star dining, which just goes to show how poor our area was back then.

Conason and Lyons did a good job at debunking a number of allegations, but the one person they failed to discredit in their investigations, despite their efforts, was Juanita Broaddrick.

bencodem,
I'd still rather eat at AQ than most of the other restaurants in the area. In particular, I'm still looking for a good Italian (Ghazi's doesn't count) restaurant up there that doesn't require a drive to Eureka Springs or Fort Smith.

You are right, John, about Italian. I assume that you are talking about Ermilio's in Eureka Springs. It's a great restaurant, but there isn't much else.

Actually, I was thinking of DeVito's. I have to hit Ermilio's eventually, 'cause people tell me good things about it, but I find it really hard to pass up the pesto-based dishes at DeVito's. So what's especially fine at Ermilio's?

"Conason and Lyons did a good job at debunking a number of allegations, but the one person they failed to discredit in their investigations, despite their efforts, was Juanita Broaddrick." --- Arkansas Blogger
Conason and Lyons say this on pages 345-346 of their book, The Hunting of the President:
"Nor was Paula Jones the only witness called whose story was far from persuasive. With the exception of Larry Nichols, Larry Case, and Say McIntosh, virtually the whole cast of characters from the sexual side of the 'Clinton scandals' either filed affidavits or gave depositions between October 1997 and January 1998. Juanita Broaddrick had done both, adamantly insisting that the allegations made in Phillip Yoakum's widely circulated letter claiming Bill Clinton had sexually assaulted her in a Little Rock hotel in 1978 were spurious."

I don't think it strains credibility to believe the viability of assertions of sexual escapades by bubba. It would be highly implausible to believe that he was anything but a sexual predator.

Jazzy,
I think you are referring to Lady Peas. If you're lucky you can find them in a Farmer's Market from time to time and sometimes the seeds are available. Last, year I posted a url to a website offering them for one of our other ARTimes Blog regulars.
Clik. Description and picture. I love them when I can get them and characterize their flavor as a little nutty as opposed to the similar appearing Cream Peas' blander smooth taste.
Here's a place that sells the seeds

Dear Family,
This year I am thankful to have you as my family rather than a normal American family. I say that because Sarah Palin is fond of talking about her family being a normal American family.
Last time I checked everyone in my family knows where Africa is on a globe. Everyone goes to college after high school. We've had no teen pregnancies as of yet and no one has appeared in Playgirl. If the Palins are a normal American family, I guess my bunch of anti-American socialists are fine by me.

Jazzy, try Cranford's if you're ever out Hot Springs Village way. I found cream peas -- maybe Allen's brand, but I'm not sure -- in the frozen veggie case at the WH Cranford's. It's been a while though.
Now if some semblance of this message has found its way to some other thread, well, I'm not sure I want to know how it got there, 'cause it's supposed to be HERE.
Sheesh.
I know. Beau did it.

Juanita Broaddrick? Changed her story two or three times when the FBI questioned her. Seems the FBI never questioned Selene Walters or Margie Schoedinger.

Hi Larry,
I used to go to IHOP with my friends and we definitely had quite a number of cups of coffee there, but the company has been exposed for food safety issues and animal cruelty in its supply chain. For more details, please check out: www.humanesociety.org/ihop.
I just wanted to let you know about what's going on at IHOP. I appreciate your taking the time to read this! =)
Sincerely,
