Ozark cop Tasers 10-year-old
The Texas granny who got Tasered was one thing.
But a 10-year-old girl? It happened in Ozark, Ark.
Heckuva story here from 40/29.
It appears the mom of an unruly child gave an Ozark cop the OK to Taser her kid and he did so after she kneed him in the groin. The police chief has backed up this use of force against a child.
Happily, there is at least one rational adult in Ozark, the girl's father.
"I would like to say Ozark police Tased this little girl right here. Ten years old and [they] shot electricity through her body, and I want to know how the heck in God's green earth can they get away with this," said the girl's father, Anthony Medlock.
Medlock said his daughter Kiara was at her mother's house when Ozark police Officer Dustin Bradshaw shocked her in the back with a Taser and arrested her.
"If you can't pick the kid up and take her to your car, handcuff her, then I don't think you need to be an officer," Medlock said.
Medlock said his daughter does show signs of having emotional issues, but she "doesn't deserve to be treated like a dog. She's not a tiger."

I'm not shocked one bit this would happen in Ozark. It's pretty much Police State USA.

Get 'em early the Catholics always said. Now we can introduce them to PoliceState America early via some new punishing technology.
I suppose, from the article, that OZark has no child counseling services.

Are they not teaching come along holds and restraints at the Police Academy in Camden anymore? Are the physical requirements for a Police Officer so reduced that an Officer can be freaked out by an emotionally disturbed ten year old girl kicking him in his groin?
The ten-year old gir l had been arrested who by his department before, where was his partner or back-up?
This was substandard performance by a peace officer, IMO.

"not shocked?" The kid was... [bad pun] After the inevitable "internal investigation" the officer will be cleared. Next?

Cops really seem to love their little taser toys, don't they? Tihs will continue untl some legislators grow balls and deem this action excessive force, or police brutality. Until then, it's just entertainment for these cops who'd really rather be putting bullets in people.
And some of ya'll bitch about the lottery.

do we really care what the father of this kid has to say? He evidently was standing there with his daughter and mother of his daughter while she attacked a police officer and didn't intervene. He sounds like quite a piece of work. Lets not forget the mother called the police on the kid, so the father wasn't man enough to control his kid. Lets start the blame with the parents and then go from there.
In all honesty a brief low-lever shock is probably safer than a hold he is taught which could result in her being injured while fighting the hold possibly resulting in a broken arm.

JRM, I can't tell from your comments if you bothered to read the linked story or not before making your comments. The article says the 10-year old girl was at her 'mother's house' and not her 'parents' house', meaning I assume the parents live apart. And nowhere does the article indicate the father was present at the time an officer used a Taser on the girl.
I guess I believe that parental rights go beyond what you think- the father has every right to comment on his 10-year old daughter being the target of a Taser. Not sure how you decided the father "sounds like quite a piece of work" with no evidence to justify such an accusation. We would need a lot more information to know what is going on in this 10-year old girl's life.
Do you always jump to conclusions like this?

Check out the comments on their story!! No wonder this country is going down the tubes when so many SUPPORT this unconscionable act. A TEN YEAR OLD!! If in fact the mother can't "control" her without police/Taser, she should lose her parental rights. Is there no depths to which Morons won't sink? Line up everyone who thinks this is OK and send them to a country with Sharia "Law" - they'll fit right in... Good grief!!!!

If anybody but a cop would of done this, they would of been locked up for child abuse. This cop should be fired! Very poor judgment! I don't think he can be trusted with dealing with the public.

If the momma cant handle her daughter without the help of the police AND use of a Taser, I think the momma is next in line for a tasering. Tasing. Whatever.
Im pretty sure Franklin County has a DHS office.
Why is Daddy not down to the courthouse filing for custody of the little girl today?
And this is probably a stupid question but I honestly dont know the answer. Can they set those things at different levels? in other words would there be low for tasering kids straight out of the Exorcist and high for tasering a 300-pound hopped-up drunken male with a broken beer bottle in his hand?

Tasers are far to often lethal when used on large people.
Police need to have these deadly toys taken away once and for all. Nobody should feel safe with carefree cops tasing people!

Man I am just shaking my head in amazement at this story.
Never in my dreams did I envision a scenario that a police officer would find it nescessary to taser a 10 year old, and a girl ten year old at that!
I am 50 years old, grew uo in the 60's and disco'd throught the 70's and spent way more years in a college frat where I figured I had seen and done damn near everything and I can not figure where a cop would ever even consider tasering anyone under 15 or so unless they were armed.
Was she maybe armed with something other than a tennis shoe or a cowgirl boot. Oops, I guess that was a knee and not a foot to the privates.

There is something bad wrong with a cop who can't keep a ten year old girl from kicking him between the legs. Sounds to me like he is a wimp. This guy should be hit with a taser too so
that he knows what it feels like. A man like this has no business being a cop.

His taser ought to be put in his front pocket and have someone nearby with a remote.
If he breathes- push
If he blinks - push
If he doesn't breath or blink - push

Some ten year old girls are pretty big and strong. I know that it sounds like this is just a little kid, but do you know how big she is? Some are "adult sized" and if they are out of control, they are pretty hard to handle.

tim smithpeters: aren't policemen required to be shot with a taser themselves as part of the training in order to use one? I forget a lot of things, but this one Im actually pretty sure about, because I remember thinking that would count me out right there.
the way I interpreted the article, the momma seemed to be encouraging the policeman to use the taser on her daughter. Which is why I suggested helpfully that they use it on her too.

"Check out the comments on their story!!"
"If someone died from having a Tazer used on them then they had a weak heart."
This is one of the comments that attempts to blame the victim. It is medically incorrect. The "SP" on the officer's lapel means "Serve & Protect". Perhaps this has been their "teachable moment".
"Opponents confront us continually, but actually there is no opponent there. Enter deeply into an attack and neutralize it as you draw that misdirected force into your own sphere."

A mother who repeatedly calls the cops because her 10 year old is acting out is the one with the problem. I hope the little girl receives the help she needs to deal with her anger issues. And the cop who can't control a 10 year old is probably going to be the laughingstock of the county, rightfully so.
