It's a very slow day. But the New York Times breaks through with a feature on the sudden popularity of the French bulldog in Astoria, Queens. They're quiet, indolent, small and amusing. Perfect for apartment life.

Carp at this frivolity if you will. My blog, my dog preference.

That's not Fifi in the photo at left, by the way, but the dog of a designer featured in the Times who decks his Frenchie out in a snappy outfit for Christmas cards each year, here a French sailor suit. Eat your hearts out.

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE: The Clinton Presidential Center starts a winter coat drive today as part of its fifth birthday observance. The Clinton Library is also open free today, 9 to 5. Details:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Nov. 14, 2009) -- In celebration of its fifth anniversary, The William J. Clinton Presidential Center kicks off a community-wide coat drive to benefit central Arkansas children and families.

The five-day coat drive begins Saturday, Nov. 14 and ends Wednesday, Nov. 18. The Center is spearheading along with partners Central Arkansas Gastroenterology Clinic, KATV Ch. 7, Oak Forest Cleaners, Salvation Army and the Little Rock Fire Department.

The Center will serve as the central drop off location. Other locations include Oak Forest Cleaners, located at 8717 West Markham and 1217 Fair Park Road in Little Rock, and any Little Rock Fire Station. Donors will receive a special gift ($25 value) from the Clinton Museum Store by bringing their coat donation receipt during the five-day coat drive.

"The coat drive is an opportunity for many people to participate and for many people to benefit," said Connie Fails, manager of the Clinton Museum Store and chairperson of the Clinton Center Coat Drive. "We want our fifth anniversary to reflect the Center's commitment to the community as well President Clinton's belief in the importance of giving."

The theme for the Clinton Center’s fifth anniversary is “Five Days of Giving,” which
is a five-day celebration to thank the citizens of Arkansas for their support of The Center.

The celebration kicks-off on Saturday, Nov. 14, when admission to the Library will be free throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The schedule for "Five Days of Giving" is listed below.

Saturday, Nov. 14, Free Admission Day at the Clinton Library and kick off for five-day coat drive.

Sunday, Nov. 15, “Crepes for Coats” at on-site restaurant Forty Two. Diners who bring their coat donation receipt for Sunday Brunch will receive a 15 percent discount. In addition, a ten percent discount will be offered at Forty Two during the weeklong celebration.

Monday, Nov. 16, Clinton School of Public Service: Student Service Project Panel.

Tuesday, Nov. 17, Clinton Center Community Service Project.

Wednesday, Nov. 18, "Thank You, Arkansas" Luncheon.

Anthropomorphism Rocks! Perhaps Max could dress Fifi up as a sexy French Maid. Ooh la la! I love all of my dog friends, but for now I've just got a couple of boy cats. They wouldn't be very photogenic if I dressed then up and attempted flash photography.

Count me in the Frenchie admirers. At a party a few years back, someone had a French Bulldog puppy (I have no idea why). I ended up carrying him around coo-ing to him most of the evening. Could have done it until my arms fell off. He was very sweet, snuggly and lovey.
