Wave of the future?

The Tribune Company (Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and others) have announced an experiment whereby the papers will try for a week to use no content from the venerable Associated Press.

We've heard gripes from several Arkansas media outlets about the major cost of receiving AP service, and many of the smaller ones already get by without the service.

We've been told that dispatches from the Arkansas AP bureau are edited somewhere in the Northeast before being disseminated.

UPDATE: Arkansas AP copy isn't handled in the Northeast, though AP does rely on some regional editing desks for certain copy. The Northeast rumor perhaps arises from a move of a Little Rock AP staffer to Philadelphia in the spring, but not for any duties related to handling Arkansas copy.
