What's black about it?

Got a long shopping list but no enthusiasm for plunging into the maddening crowds?

Check out this week's Times and Kat Robinson's cover story. It's a detailed list of good Arkansas food, perfect for giving.

Also in this week's paper:

* Speaking of shopping, you CAN'T buy a North Little Rock merchant's boozy chocolate truffles because, well, it's a government thing. Gerard Matthews reports.

* I ruminate on Sen. Blanche Lincoln's political predicament and wonder whether a potential challenge from Lt. Gov. Bill Halter could shape her deliberations.

* Ernie Dumas assesses the toll of the huge outlays of TV advertising on Lincoln's changing position on health care.

* Lindsey Millar checks in with 607, a Little Rock rapper, and his brother Bobby who unveil a new act Saturday at The Village.

* Restaurant review is Santo Coyote, new in NLR.

* Bob Lancaster says thanks for 2009.

Re: Halter over Lincoln--LOL. It would be like the U.S. Senate term Bill Clinton never had.

"Thanks for a system that lets a Clarence Thomas decide what a James Madison meant."

Assmunch hits the nail squarely on the head with this one. The entire legacy of the Repukes is to elevate mediocrity to a desired trait.

Excellent points MaxB. I think Blank has spent so much time in DC listening to the "Serious People" that she believes their navel gazings mirror those of a significant bloc of the American people.

Run Bill, RUN!

Alaskan Aphrodite gets tricked once again by clever comedian.

Too boozy truffles, huh?
My absolutely, forevermore, teetotalling Baptist sis-in-law developed a taste for my black bottom pie, rum balls and rum cake over the years. I know -- I'm mean. She always wanted my recipes, but hubby always pulled me aside and said, "Nuh uh" every time I threatened, er, offered, to copy 'em. I don't believe she knows 'til this day what was in 'em.

A paper published by a think tank last month warned that Sen. Blanche Lincoln's ascendancy to the Agriculture Committee chairmanship was a bad omen for passage of climate-change legislation in 2010 due to her close ties to agricultural producers and processors seen as major contributors of greenhouse gases. /more/
