Updated!: A Legend is Born

If you don't have the new John Legend album, do yourself a favor, get on iTunes, go to Best Buy, do something and get it.  Completely new styles from his first disc, it has the same threads of soul, r&b, jazz and just enough hip hop to be current.  I'm currently listening to it on repeat at the "salt mine" and bobbing around to "Heaven Only Knows".

A good friend introduced me to Legend around the same time another introduced me to Gavin DeGraw, and when both were emerging out of the NYC music scene and singer/ songwriters bringing the piano back into vogue.  I was smitten as soon as Ordinary People hit my ears and I've been hooked ever since.

Legend has played and produced for everyone from Lauryn Hill (please, where's my promised new Ms. Hill record?) to Kanye West to Alicia Keys and Joss Stone.  Legend is one of the best in the business and looks to only continue to rise among his contemporaries with the rare gift of being musician, lyricist, performer and producer who actually is capable of wearing all the hats at the same time.

Go, now, and find this music.....

Confidentially, "I think I've got to let her go, she only loves in stereo." - Mr. Ricky  (caconfidential@gmail.com)

By request from Belinda, the following long overdue and short and sweet guide to Once Again, by John Legend.  Preface:  Legend's songs are no where near being the same style throughout, artitistically, he's a whirlwind of soul, R&B, Mo-town, hip-hop, funk, jazz and blues.  He uses them indiscriminately like I use italian spices when making red sauce.  So there's something for everyone here, but don't expect getting two songs and loving them means the rest are just the same... iTunes let's you preview still right?

Un-definitive Overview:

Save Room - kinda funk influenced, up beat, jazzy, I like it a lot.

Heaven - again, mix of new school and and ole skool, this song will get you moving in your chair.

Stereo - one of my favorite tracks.  it scorches and lends itself to "in-car" singing and seat dancing.

Show Me - love songs, wow, he's got 'em.  This one is great, real smokey, surely it can only be played in a dimly lit speak easy.

Each Day Gets Better - more traditional mo-town feel to this one.

P.D.A. - starts off like it's this little ballad and then, BAM! Probably the easiest song to groove to, meant for head bobbin and shoulder shruggin.

Slow Dance - Take me back, John, take me back, this song is slow in all the right ways, just like the title, you really do want to grab someone and head out to the floor.

Again - The song I can't get away from.  Like Ordinary People from his debut, this song will tear your heart out and make you wonder how he doesn't have his own hour on MTV.  This is Legend at his finest, and simplest, it could only better if it was just him at the piano and nothing else.

Maxine - not the pick for just buying a couple, it's a story song kinda, it's soulful and layered, lots of back up singers, but not the strongest cut on the record.

Where Did My Baby Go - I don't know, but I'm glad she did so we got this song.  Again, the lost love song is alive and well in Legend's hands.  Again, simple, strong and you'll be singing the hook all day... trust me...

Another Again - Again the beat in this song is perfect and Legend shouldn't be allowed to sing this well.  If he ever does a piano only cd, this must be included. (Not to be confused with Again, two diff. songs, both good)

Coming Home - this song is beautiful.  That's the only way I can describe it.  It's worth at least $2.75

So, if you don't want to drop the $9.99, I would suggest the following for the Once Again experience:(in no particular order)(it's like picking which puppies to get rid of...)

Coming Home
Again
Where Did My Baby Go

Slow Dance
Show Me

Stereo

Okay, that's all I can do, I can't imagine not owning the above, and see that's six bucks right there, $4 more and you get it all.  So if you get two, one being Again I would say, I would get Stereo if you like R/B, Hiphop, or Slow Dance if you want a more retro-Detroit sound.  You really can't go wrong with Legend, I don't think he's written a song that I've taken out of my iTunes rotation.

Things I'm sick of...

1.  Movabletype interface -  does someone know something I don't, it takes forever for it to load and stuff and I don't get the cut and paste thing, is there some kind of guide I should read?

2.  U of A Football talk -  I just can't take anymore of it, everyday there's some new announcement.  Until you announce Broyles has finally retired been excised, please quit telling me every time Mitch Mustain goes to the cafeteria or Peyton Hillis calls his parents... 2 games, 2 games from a National Championship... 2.... probably.....still a BCS, top ten ranking easy...

3.  Office woman - the woman who refuses to let me turn the muzak off in the office.  She really enjoys it.... freak....right now it's, "I will always love you", done as an instrumental light jazz arrangement... oh, by the way, the Dolly Parton version... who makes this crap?  I have John Legend blaring from my computer speakers in passive agressive protest.

4.  Mike Huckabee.  I wish he would crawl under the rock of some glorified position with the Rep. party or the SB convention and leave us alone.  What a crooked little man.  If he were elected President, I'd have to move overseas, no really, I would, it would be Central London Confidential... wait... I like that... anyone want to sponsor my new life in the UK? No? worth a shot...

5.  Taxes -  Not paying them, just remembering about them. Assessing?  What is that?  My parents told me I needed to assess and I know that, but why can't I get an email reminder? [sigh]

6.  American Idol showing four people who can sing and seventy-three people who have lost their damn minds.  And then having them all sing the same song to make a freak-show montage that's obviously set up.  Audition shows used to be the best, now they're just the worst.  [But that boy from Bryant could blow, even if he looks like a 60's Cuban Revolutionary.  Word around the campfire is he's a substitute teacher in Bryant schools and ministers to the homeless.  I guess that sorta explains "the look".  He's my horse, if he makes the show, I'll be voting for him, I won't be watching cause that's LOST, but I'll vote, I like his panache.  Good luck to him.]

7.  Not having spell check on Movable.  How do I get this, someone help me, I can't live like this anymore and I have no Google toolbar on the work machine, which is also something I'm sick of.

8.  The state of the Union address (which I just typed Onion, which made me laugh) - [arg!] first of all, W. is just not a speaker, he should have emailed it to the country.  Then the Democrats get a rebuttal, more snooze.  Then every news agency in the world has to have analysis, of a speech, in which everything he said would be offered in more detail next week.  I wish he would resign.  I do.  He should.  It's embarassing that we allowed him to have 8 years because he started a WAR the year before his re-election... hmmmm.... Huck is taking notes no doubt....

9. Lists of ten things... except Letterman's his are good....

Okay, I had to rant and I have like nine tv blogs in a row, changing it up...

Please Stand By: Season 1: Episode 2 "George could make ya cry"

Well, just some quick rants today, but good ones:

(THUR./ABC/8PMCST) - well, I watched the episode finally in which [SPOILER] George's father dies and wow, it was some of the better television I've seen this year. This show does a good job of mixing humor and drama together and in different ways for each character. T.R. Knight, who portrays George on the show, has gotten the meatiest character arc this season and I think puts him in contention for an Emmy nod this year or next. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't really want to join the Dead Dad's club, but I will sooner than later.

I think the episode really brought up some feelings about fearing losing my own father one of these days and how lost I'll be when he's gone. And that's the kind of television I like and the kind of experience I think you miss with reality television. Something about a story makes it more emotional, where as someone jumping in a box of roaches who lost their Dad last august is, well, just sad, for all the wrong reasons. I don't think I have to tell you to watch this show, 38 million people are watching the show, but this episode bore mentioning. All the other characters were really secondary as well as any advancement of their plots, but [SPOILER] Karev and Montgomery are getting together (there are people outside the hospital for crying out loud) which isn't a surprise. Thus leaving Izzy to hook up with the other Mc. Doctor, they bearded one? That's all I can figure, everyone else is either married or in a "relationship". We'll see. I haven't seen anything about guest stars, etc. so we'll see.

(SciFi/SUN/9PMCST) - well, I will admit, I've missed some episodes of BSG this year, I have, what can I say, I go out on Fridays and sometimes I miss the re-run...whatever, get off my case! Still, this show is a juggernaut, you need to be watching this show. This week marked it's return from the Holiday Hiatus and it was, well, a strange episode. A lot happened, like big, monumental stuff, but I never really felt the build. Probably because I watched the Colts make the greatest play-off comeback of all time against the Patriots, finally, Manning in a Super Bowl. Anyway, there were some good things and some bad things in this episode. First, the bad, suspension of disbelief is a problem for me sometimes. You have to concede the fact that the cylons, the metal ones, which are updated and pretty bad-ass in this series, aren't always going to look (or act) like they should. Last night's episode takes place on a planet so there's lots of outside, wilderness shots, etc. It's hard to get CGI to blend well and there were sometimes I thought they looked a little off. Also, and this is just my own mind at work, how can the metal cylons never run out of ammo? I'll go ahead and say they can carry 2500 rounds in on each side of their chests, internally, yet I've never seen one run out, ever... I know. And while I'm on that topic, how can humans have made ships that can travel at the speed of light and created a race of androids that biologically based and become smart enough to realize they are their own species, etc. and no one have perfected the laser? I'm not sayin, but I'm sayin, it don't make much sense. Surely, someone would have come up with a laser gun...

Anyway, this episode killed off a pretty major character, who revealed there are 5 more cyclons we don't even know about (I predict one if not three of the major roles are unknown cylon sleepers including Starbuck's husband). Starbuck apparently has some new powers pertaining to the search for Earth and apparently the hybrid baby is back. Well, enough almost spoilers.

The episode was good in that it opened a lot of new wounds and plot directions and was a great way to open the second half of the season, now everyone is all like, "Say what? Where are we headed now? How are we going to get there? Why does everyone still play along with Apollo and Starbuck not being in love?" I've set the VCR up to tape now, so hopefully I won't be missing any further episodes.

(ABC/SUN/9PMCST)- okay, so I did watch it this week, I think I might be getting addicted, but Sally Fields just latches on to me and I can't get away. Anywho, this show fluctuates from great to mediocre. Last night's episode was okay, I guess, I think there were some good scenes, but the party fiasco was a little too drawn out for me, but there was, of course, a great dynamic and a good scene between Fields and her character's mother (portrayed by Marion Ross, Mrs. Cunningham from Happy Days). And it's those scenes that keep me coming back. The cast is good, the writing is good, most of the time, but they struggle to find something for every character to do, every show, and frankly, I think they need to go the way of LOST and others that will leave major characters out completely for one or two episodes to focus the show. I don't know, I don't make the decisions, but Rob Lowe is doing good work on there as a special guest star for the season. It remains to be seen if he will stay on the show. The previous love interest for Miranda (Calista Flockhart) got the axe pretty quick, and I'm thinking it was the dynamic of the two characters not working for the viewers. They were suddenly co-hosting a show and then sleeping together, it was bad. They have really cleaned up her love life and that has helped a lot. They also eliminated a slew of minor characters that pulled focus from the real meat of the show, the dynamics of this big family.

I'm not sure how this show is going to fare come next fall, but with Desperate Housewives (ABC/SUN/ 8PMCST) back on the war path, they have a great lead in and might just make it.

DON'T FORGET 16 DAYS TILL .......

Confidentially wondering why I thought I could keep a TV blog going, who knows?...Mr. Rickey.

PS: G.W.B. will be hitting the airways this evening... I will try to watch, but I feel like I lose brain cells when he speaks... but there's always  (FX/ TUES/ 9PMCST),which is vying for the dirtiest FX show yet, I mean it's getting raunchy y'all, and I thought Nip/Tuck had done it all...

Please Stand By: Pilot : The Other Half Airs

Well, the second half of the traditional television season is getting started.  I enjoyed a new episode of Friday Night Lights (NBC, WED, 7PM), at least I think it was new, it was new to me and left off where I had finished watching.  More on FNL later.
So, some of you who have been chomping at the remote to find out what's going to happen next here's a brief run down of who's coming back, who's cancelled and who's in the t.v. purgatory of "on-hiatus".  This information is summarized from Michael Storey's: The TV Column in the ADG.Thanks to Michael who gets paid to research this stuff and probably has contacts and memberships galore, read his column, it's usually fair and well thought out.  I added my own opinions on most...

Starting:

24 (Fox, MON, 7PM) - I may have that time wrong, I think it's on at 8PM, but check local listings.  The 4 hour season premiere begins this Sunday, January 21 and continues on the 22nd, both at 7PM.  You either like this show or you don't, personally, I've never been able to follow a whole season in sequence and that's a big part of the package.  But Sutherland and the show are up for every award out there, so check it out.

Here we go again...sigh....American Idol (FOX, like every night) - [roll eyes.]  I really wish AI would go the way of Survivor.  I'm so sick of AI conversations and who got kicked off, blah blah blah.  They'll pick some other flash in the pan we'll all forget about around the same time next year.

Coming Back:
Feb 7th, really? That's excessiveLOST (ABC, WED, 9PM) - Feb 7th!  I know, right?  J.J. Abrams is pushing his luck.  First he cuts us off at the knees with 6 episodes and then an extended hiatus filled with reruns from last year, something ABC tried to push on me called Daybreak and teaser commercials.  I won't even mention Six Degrees.  Now they want us to wait another month for our fix?  This is why stuff gets leaked on the internet....

Battlestar Galatica (SciFi, SUN, 9PM) - starts Jan. 21. I have to agree with Mr. Storey and so many other critics, this is one of the best shows you're not watching.  This isn't the 70's campy space show.  The new BSG is gritty, riveting, sexy, slick and razor sharp.  Insert your own cliche' adjective here.  The show moves to Sundays from Fridays which can only mean increased ratings and perhaps SciFi's first breakout hit show.  I know, Farscape, Dr. Who, Stargates, etc., but I'm talking main stream, network numbers people, it's that good.
And if you haven't been watching, Season 1 & 2 (I is on DVD and there will be a BSG marathon on Jan. 15, so get caught up!

Save the Cheeleader, Save the WorldHEROES (NBC, MON, 8PM) - returns with new episodes on Jan 22! Save the Cheerleader, Save the Wolrd.  If you aren't watching this show, I feel sorry for you.

Friday Night Lights (NBC, WED, 7PM) - WATCH THIS SHOW!  New episodes started   .  Having gotten an order for a full season, I for one hope this show gets picked up for another season at least.  We'll see what happens when they have to start graduating the stars, etc.  More on this show later too.  Full Episodes available on their page.

Jericho - (CBS, WED, 7PM) - Jericho was in a fight with my other Wed. television schedule and I couldn't see as much as I wanted, but I liked what I saw.  It looks like you can watch full episodes on the Jericho page on CBS.com, so if you're looking to catch up, this could be your chance as new episodes don't start until Feb. 21st.... wow... they're really trying to be fashionably late, huh? FYI:  Jericho has one of the more sophisticated fan integrations of any show with CBS fully behind fan WIKI, storylines only available online, etc.  It's almost as impressive as HEROES and LOST, almost...

Desperate Housewives - (ABC, SUN, 8PM) - started with new episodes Sunday, and this season seemed a lot better than Season 2, but alas, I was so disappointed in last season that I just haven't made it a priority. [update, I watched it last night, well tried to with childrens running amuck.  The episode was good, except that Zack, who inherited all him Grandfather's money, has this huge, Texas pageant queen hairdo that's hysterical.  I've too far behind though, so I think it's still off the list...]

NBC Thursdays 7 - 9PM - The Office, My Name is Earl, Scrubs and 30 Rock, have been back with new episodes since last week, and they are all spectacular.  You have to tape either NBC or ABC and watch the other, CBS should just shutdown for the night and take Fox on a date.

ABC Thursdays 7 - 10PM - I usually tape these, Ugly Better, Grey's Anatomy and Men in Trees.  So what, Grey's anatomy has fallen off a little this season and they had one of them inherit 8 million dollars, it's still good.  Betty and Men in Trees are both hitting their stride and look like they could both be around for awhile.  Again, I tried not to like Men in Trees, and I couldn't do it.  I'm a sucker for Alaska...

Other notables returning:  The Class (I'll pass); Brothers & Sisters (I told you people this would work, I'll try to tape it, but BSG will win out, I already know); Studio 60 (I can't watch it if What About Brian is on.)

So there's the biggies coming back.  Here's what is dead in the water:

Help Me Help You - and ABC sitcom, something they have trouble with a lot of times, that starred Ted Danson.  I saw it once and that was enough.  Danson has and can do better.

Smith - a CBS drama about professional thieves that starred Ray Liotta and was great.  I think they only got four or five episodes in before they were cancelled off Tuesdays.  I thought the network should have put more behind it and thought about moving it to the slot behind LOST... instead they went with The Nine, great pick.

Twenty Good Years - NBC sitcom with John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor... I don't know somehow it didn't work... I watched it, it really didn't work... these guys are usually solid gold... I don't know...Lithgow will still manage an Emmy nod probably.

There are others, but I never watched them because I knew, I knew!, they wouldn't be around, I have a sixth sense, it involves the remote, I try to use my powers for good.

And finally, here's what's apparently in trouble and on the fence:.

The Nine (ABC) - awful, a collection to TV notables with a dragging script and fractured story line. (Apparently this is officially cancelled now.  FYI:  They were going to tie up the bank robbery storyline this year and focus more on the bond between the people involved, blah blah blah, should have gotten around to it faster.)

Six Degrees (ABC) - see The Nine.  Abrams is capable of more, I think he spent to much time setting us up for the big stuff.  WHAT'S IN THE BOX?????  If you know, let me know, I quit watching.

Standoff (Fox) - I think this about hostage negoiators or something, I vaguely remember turning it on for three minutes and saying.... nah, I'm sure Meerkat Manor is on or something...

Til Death (Fox) - Til - mid-season if they're lucky, it isn't/ wasn't anything special, Brad Garrett and his Emmy's couldn't save this mess.

Big Day (ABC) - now I've recently been following this show which is a comedy version of 24.  All the episodes take place during the wedding day of the two main characters and it is hysterical.  I don't know how you would stretch it into another season as the last episode was at 7:00 PM and they were about to get married, but I enjoyed it and it's fine cast.  Check it out while it's still around, I'm sure it will become a $20 DVD next year too.

Woo, I got a little tired there at the end, but these are the highlights.  I didn't put anything in here about HBO, Showtime, TBS, etc., because I don't have some of those channels and I don't watch most of those shows, so if you have a premium/ obscure Cable line-up blog, send it to me and I'll attach it.

[Confidentially, I wrote this before the weekend and never got it up so it's now a bit dated, but get over it, I'm trying people, I'm trying...]

Please Stand By....

Well, I'm going to try something newish since it seemed to work in the past, and devote some of my blog space to what I'm going to call a "mini-blog" about all the Television I watch, or try to watch, as well as all the ridiculous facts I find when I look people up on the internet, etc., so forth and so on.  And the name of this mini-blog, is:  Please Stand By.  I did the graphic myself, I think it looks pretty good.
While I'm going to try to remain focused on the boob tube, I may stray into movies, etc. and so forth, so deal with it people, deal with it.

Now for a short list of my regular viewing:
LOST
Grey's Anatomy
The Office
Ugly Betty
My Name Is Earl
HEROES
Big Day
Battlestar Gallactica
SNL
Friday Night Lights
Men In Trees
30 Rock
Scrubs

FX: (dirt - nip/tuck - The Shield - Rescue Me - Everythings Sunny in Philadelphia)

That's just the tip of the iceberg.  I do have some guilty pleasure reality shows that will make appearances too, such as The Hills, I Love New York and The One that I want, though I try not to support reality television.  Also, All My Children and the Bold and the Beautiful are tolerated.

There will be no positive discussion of any of these retarded game shows like Guess What, Deal or Meal or One against 78 or whatever they're called.  If reality television isn't bad enough, let's not start with non-skill based game shows that make every decision a cliff hanger....yawn.  It's called Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy people.

All entries will be called Please Stand By, and be followed by a number or something, wel'll see.  Okay, so let's see how this goes, perhaps my seven readers will enjoy it.

Confidentially excited, Mr. Rickey.

Whoa is me... another football season ends...

Oh, dear baby Jesus, dear 8lb. 6oz. baby Jesus, sweet tiny baby Jesus, please bless the Arkansas Razorback football team as they head into the great unknown that is the off-season.  Please allow our talented quarterbacks to improve their field vision, learn to make good decisions and use the natural talents your Father has bestowed upon them.  Oh sweet, lovable, Gerber-like baby Jesus, please allow Darren McFadden and Felix Jones to remain uninjured and not to go out to "nightclubs" till 4 A.M., when they are only 20 years old, and get into "scuffles" that might hinder their lateral movement and endanger their Heisman hopes.  Oh this little piggy went to market, baby Jesus, please allow Houston Dale Nutt, our brother in command of this team, to realize he must trust that his assistant coaches are not the devil and may have a better idea as to how to make 4 and 1, just once.  Infant, toddler, baby Jesus, please allow our receivers and the defensive secondary, and as you as my witness, our special teams to play to the level of national champions on each game day this fall and not to fold unto themselves in the last 3 outings like a house of cards.  In your name we pray, Amen.

That's my prayer for the Hoggies, who were two games, TWO games, away from losing this game:

Alex Wood    Furthermore, there's talk of Alex Wood, Arkansas QB coach taking a position at UNC and taking Malzahn with him?  Okay, one, Gus, you wouldn't be in college coaching if you didn't have 4 all-star recruits to barter with last year.  Two, you have two of the best backs in the country, in the country; a Gatorade All-American QB you persuaded to follow you to the U of A, a top notch receiver you still haven't found a way to isolate in coverage, a monster Fullback, who we hope will be back, and a football team that was in the hunt, though briefly, for the National Championship - but you're thinking about leaving for UNC?  So you can build a program from the ground up or something?  Why don't you take a couple years to get into the groove.  I know the ACC looks ripe for the picking with Wake freakin Forest winning the conference title, but FSU and Miami are gonna be back with a vengeance, real soon, and it's not gonna be pretty.  There's a reason the basketball team gets all the press.  Three, Frank Broyles can only live so long, you might inherit this team one day....

Finally, congratulations  to the [grumble, grumble] University...[sonofabiatch] of...[Icandothis,I'mabigperson] Florida on holding both the Football and Basketball National Championships at the same time for the first time in NCAA history....could their week get any better, will the "Swamp" turn into cotton candy? Oh, wait, yeah, they squeaked by the upstart Hog basketball team last night in what would have been the greatest win of Stan Heath's career, eclipsing his former greatest win last Saturday over Alabama.  Surely the basketball team isn't going to start getting good too, that would be too much success on the Hill.  Well, there's always Razorback track...

Confidentially, that's my Razorback Football rant...

2007 - Jump Start!

Well, the long the hiatus is over, I'm back, by unpopular demand!

Here's a bunch of little stuff I've missed over the break:

- I was totally sick for all my time off, it was awful. Started Christmas Eve and I'm still not completely over it.  Was it all that holiday Heroin..maybe..more likely it was exposure to children under 15 with runny noses.  The only good thing was being away from work for a week.  Even sick, it was better than any day at the desk.

- Having been sick, I'm totally behind on all the movies I wished to see at the theaters...

- While I was sick, I watch me some of that daytime T.V.  Two interesting reruns I saw:  Ellen Degeneress had President Bill Clinton on (apparently sometime during Thanksgiving originally) and to make matters better, she had called some one who lived across the street from the studio in to visit, who brought her baby, and when the mom wheeled out on to the set Clinton scooped the kid up like he was on the campaign again.  No matter what you feel about that man, he is one of the smoothest operators you will ever see, he had the entire audience in the palm of his hand in a matter of twelve seconds.  Sure it was middle-aged women, but still, impressive.

I also watched an episode of Oprah in which she and Anderson Cooper with the help of other hi-profile reporters did an expose on "America's Poor", showing the three sides of American Poverty:  1. The inner-city, minority, single parent who may or may not be a recovering drug addict; 2. the Appalachian country family, out of work, living on food stamps and well water with the stereotypical mountain accent and the 3. "working poor" who have jobs, etc. but just barely as they make too little to be secure and too much to qualify for government assistance.  It was all very compelling as multi-millionaire, old money familied, reporters took time out of their lives to tip toe through the lives and homes of these people and then get back on their Leer jets.

While I believe in drawing attention to the issue of our own countries poor, Winfrey and her many guests didn't offer any suggestions on how we combat this problem, no experts, no government officials, nada.  Oprah said she was personally fighting poverty through education iniatives (she has a luxury private school in South Africa that is being criticized for being too nice and elitest) and Cooper mearly shook his head in agreement, probably still on a high after Oprah called him "one of my new best friends".

Oprah can "urge" me all she wants, but I don't have almost a billion dollars in personal wealth, homes in Chicago, Malibu, Maui, London, South Africa, NYC, and a global enterainment empire through which to do that good, she does, I would like to see her use it on a larger scale instead of "My Favorite Things You Can't Afford" shows.  Follow Bill Gates lead.

-  According to a David Koon article in last week's Ark. Times  Sen. John McCain wants to stop child internet pornography by cracking down on any website with questionable content.  While a little liberally slanted, I especially liked "knuckle-dragging Republican", Mr. Koon brings up a good point that this type of legislation makes it possible for the regular, all be it somewhat sick, individual to wage cyber terrorism on a website.  I have submitted an inquiry to the McCain office for a formal explanation.  Witty staffer banter is on the way, I'm sure.  That's right, I'm not from your state, but I'm still watching... and my Aunt lives there so, there...okay...don't look at me that way....

- Did the Razorbacks really lose the last three games of the season?  Has the wildcat formation run out of steam, as opposing offenses know that's the only passing threat we have?  Is there a kicker in the state of Arkansas who can hit a field goal?  Please?  The only thing that stemmed the agony of the defeat by Wisconsin was the ridiculous game played by Boise State to upset a weak, but still heavily gunned, Okalahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.  That was the best college football game of 2007... pending Florida pulling out some magic against OSU.  Mark my words, best game of 2007, who has a set lateral pass play that they use, then a statue of liberty reversal to go for 2, in overtime, of the Fiesta Bowl, against Oklahoma?!  It was insane.  I haven't cheered out loud at a non-Hogs game in a long time.  The sad part, no one will schedule BSU out of conference now...

[FX - Tuesdays - 9PM CST] - well another one of the "Friends" has decided to head back to television.  The latest attempted reincarnation has Courtney Cox as the head of a Los Angeles tabloid magazine called "dirt" and follows the ins and outs of the business, the celebs it follows, etc. If a tenth of the action that happened in the pilot actually happens in real life, the Inquirer may be the best place to work in America.  There was so much sex, drugs and roll camera action in the pilot I got a little dizzy.  Cox has the dirt on everyone in Hollywood, but boohoo, can't find someone to love her in a town full of people that hate her.  Her main source, a schizophrenic paparazzi, is a strange bird and the most entertaining thing in the show so far.  Some minor actors portray "big time stars" with big time secrets, some selling one another out for good press in dirt.

The cast is okay, it's obvious they are spending the bulk of the money on Cox and hubby Arquette's exec. producing than on other big name talent.  Which is a staple of FX shows, they build around one or two people. Regrettably, basketball star turned sub-par actor Rick Fox, has a requiring role as, you guessed it,  an NBA basketball player with some secrets.  Fox just didn't have any spark to him, we'll see how long he sticks around.  I can't say that I enjoyed this new series, but whatever gets us through to Rescue Me and the Shield I'll give it a chance.

-  I plan to start my TV blogging again, someone has to do it, but my list of shows will be cut down dramatically, I've decided I have to focus up.  Battelstar Gallactica, Dirt, Heroes, Friday Night Lights, LOST, Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, The Office, 30 Rock, The One That I Want and a few others are still in the mix.  SciFi has some interesting new things developing, yes, interesting...

- Still waiting on people who need advice, I guess the whole dream of an pseudo advice column has stalled... oh wellzville, that means my op-eds on second world financial theory will have to replace it... you're the ones not writing to caconfidential@gmail.com....

- I plan to head down to White Water soon to check out the "under new management", though I've heard nothings changed, thank the good Lord.

-  Theater watch is gearing back up, right now all I'm sure of is West Side Story at The Weekend Theater and Noises Off at Community Theater of Little Rock.  More on those, later....

So, beware, I'm back until they cancel me or those lotto numbers hit...Confidentially hoping 2007 is new and improved, Mr. Ricky

PS:  While sitting here, some dude just walked by with a cowlick that was at least four inches tall, if he had freckles, I'd have to have made an Alfalpha reference....
