My Big Fat Greek Gyro
The Greek Food Fest is in full swing. My wife brings back these awesome pics; she describes them below.

The long lines for the Gyros ($6) are worth the wait. The blend of lamb, beef and seasoning is carved off of the rotisserie thingy. Then piled high on top of pita bread with tomatoes, onions and tzatziki yogurt sauce.

The delicious tender roasted lamb platter ($12) is served with, Greek salad, cold seasoned green beans and oven roasted potatoes in a sauce of herbs that is awesome for dipping your pita bread into.

Pastitsio is the Greek version of Mac and Cheese with beef, but a thousand times better with a thick layer of baked cheese sauce on top. The platter ($10) also includes Greek salad, pita and spanakopita - filo dough layered with feta cheese, spinach and herbs. You can buy just the pastitsio for $6 and the spanakopita for $3 at this stand. Also go inside to get two larger rolled spanakopitas for $6 near the exit of the pastry line at a table with Greek cookbooks and jars of food to take home.

Leave room for sweets and grab some to go. The assorted plate ($5) includes baklava (filo layered with nuts and spices drizzled with honey), melomacarona cookies, sourata (like baklava in a log form), and kourambiethe (Greek wedding cookies coated in powder sugar).
If you can't stay, remember the drive-thru or go to the chicken stand for a whole Greek rotisserie chicken ($9) to take home.

OMG, I would happily spend $10 every day for the rest of my life for the platter with pastitsio, salad, pita and spanakopita as my only meal. On Sundays and feast days I'd spring an extra $5 for the baklava, etc, plate, and I'd never need more than one meal a day. Seriously.

The gyros were delicious. I loved them. Also the baklava almost broke me as I think I bought enough to last until this time next year. I just couldn't resist it though.

In case anyone hasn't been paying attention, this is the kind of food that will keep you healthy and alive, as long as you feel like living, longer than any other. Eat like this every day, wash it down with anything between water and wine, add a bit of spirits at the end of a long or special day, and your body will serve your spirit well until you are done with it.
"Fast", "easy" food, under any guise or label, is an insult to life. Real food is a sacrament, not a pill to be swallowed quickly to get it out of the way.

Oh, yes, the pastitsio platter was wonderful! A friend who was with me wondered why they don't have stuffed grape leaves. I had no answer. Have they ever?
Only disappointment was that there were no pastries, no baklava. They ran out at 6 pm yesterday (Saturday). I typically get it for Mr. EY, not myself, so I'm not terribly upset. Picked up some goodies for him at the Fresh Market.

Little Rock desparately needs another Greek/Mediterranean restaurant besides Leo's. With all of this, you'd think we could support one.
