R.I.P. Sir Loin's

Its best days were long ago in my opinion, but Rev. Mojo Ryson offers a farewell to a favorite NLR restaurant:

With heavy heart and full belly, this old fat boy must report that I had the last supper at a Dawgtown legend, the venerated, possibly best North Little Rock scarfing establishment Sir Loins Inn.

Sadly this was their last night.

The birthday, anniversary, post Hog game dinners, etc. I have had there over the past 3 decades are too numerous to mention.

Hands down, best service in the Metroplex.

Reasons for closing are trifold.

1. Three different families dipping out of profits.

2. Worn out infrastructure.

3. Location.

Put Sir Loins Inn up on McCain's "Restaurant Row" and you would be printing money.

Sad to see an old friend go down.

My party of 9 was the official last paying customers of the evening.

A group of past and present employees were gathering in the Redcoat Tavern.

Adieu old friend.

WHAT?!?!?!??! How sad. I admit it wasn't the hippest place to go (although that didn't keep Nu in business terribly long), but the steaks were awesome, the drinks good and the bread soaked in butter, well, what more do you need to say about bread soaked in butter.

How sad...

Even the most famous restaurants eventually close. Delmonico's in New York, the most famous of them all, lasted less than 100 years.

I guess the main reason is that it's hard to compete when you're in a business where people can always just fix their own at home, and every time new competition opens, everybody runs to try them out, and usually find something the like.

Man, that is a bummer...

All this cryin' brings to mind the final week of the venerable Minute Man restaurant at Capitol and Broadway in LR: Hordes came out to have their last No. 3 burger and Radar Dish pie during the restaurant's final couple of days, leading its owner to this plaintive cry: Where were all you people before now?
