Time to shop at Sam's
No, not that Sam's. We're talking Sam's Oriental Store on South University and Asher. If you haven't been, you don't know what you're missing.
Aisles of fun. I don't know what half this stuff is.
My favorite- Wasabi Peas.
Need a sack of rice?
The fresh produce looks good.
More fresh veggies.
You know you want some.
OK- these are tasty. Salty as all get out, but tasty.
If you haven't shopped at Sam's, or even if its just been a while, stop in for a visit. Its a lot of fun.
Do you know of a small market that you can tell us about?

I am headed there today. They have live blue crabs on Saturdays. Try some of the different sauces and dressings. The Chinese soy sauce has a great flavor. Even my 8 yr old is hooked. No more Kikkoman! You will find that the vegetables and fresh herbs are fresher and much cheaper than you will get at your local grocery. It is worth a trip to look around just for fun.

Wow....yes, love Sam's, but rarely make it there. Good pix and a good reminder.

I noted a wide selection of rice noodles, much better for most people than pasta,
and a necessity for serving red or green curry, Thia style.
To quickly prepare dried, packaged rice noodle:
Bring 4qts of salted water to boil. Turn off heat or remove from heat. Add package of rice noodles. Will require 5-10 min of cooking time depending upon which size of noodle you cook...be sure to check for firmness and tenderness at 3 min intervals and gently stir. Rice noodles are easily overcooked and can become mush. You never put rice noodles into boiling water and allow them to boil.
When desired doneness is achieved remove from hot water and blanche. To reheat rice noodle simply dip into very hot water briefly.
Other methods for cooking rice noodles call for soaking overnite in cold water. Then, just before serving bath noodles in very hot broth.
Did Sam's offer pickled lettuce?
Belly Boy: I called. No pickled lettuce. They have pickled radish though.

Leave a little Chinese okra (CeeGwa? -- sp?) for me. I haven't had any since an elderly neighbor -- long since retired from gardening -- grew it years ago. I tried it in my garden, but never had much luck with it.
Looks like my next trip to LR will include some new and offbeat grocery stores. Hubby's going to be shaking his head . . .

Anyone know where to get a bottle of Soju (traditional Korean alch. bev)? I've tried Sams and the two stores in Jacksonville without luck.
ARK. BLOG: Not in Ark. But if you're ever in Houston, I bet Spec's has it. That's the darnedest liquor/specialty food store I've ever seen. If they don't have it, it isn't made. We brought a carload of stuff back.

I love Sams- half the fun of going there is just looking at all the stuff- since they don't have any logical order to them. Their little Japanese kitty dishes are adorable. I also get my favorite dim sum and dumplings and sauces there. I just wish there was room in my fridge for the ginormous bottles of kimchi they have.
I need to go and see if they have any matcha tea- I need some to make some green tea ice cream and my own frappo-smoothies with.
