Tastes Like Chicken?
Gator bites from Cajun Broilers in Hot Springs. Boneless chunks of gator spiced, breaded, and deep fried in vegetable oil, these "bites" arrive at your table tender and juicy. An appetizer plate runs about 5-6 bucks. I think it tastes like alligator, but our cohorts (who had never had gator) believed it to taste like taste like very chewy chicken. Blasphemy I tells ya.
Our friends ordered the crab fingers appetizer, also in the $5-$6 range.
Both were excellent. I opted for the bottle of Cajun Garlic Sauce on the table instead of using the cocktail sauce that came with the orders. If you haven't been here, you don't know what you're missing, but get there early- the line can get very, very long.
On Lake Hamilton, 2806 Albert Pike Hot Springs (501) 767-5695. Get there before 6 and you can take advantage of the Early Bird Specials. A topic for a later post.
Who else likes the Gator? You can apply to hunt one, ya know.

Cajun Boilers is great for displaced Cajuns. The crab claws are excellent, and the gator's not bad either.
IMO, the best seafood in this area.

I suggest you ask for the origin of the alligator before participating in the annihilation of a vanishing species.
Hope it was chicken. any place in Central Ark serving turtle soup?
Belly Boy: It's farm raised, and they are not vanishing, but have rather made a vigorous recovery in recent years. Copy and paste:

Really do not like gator. I've only tried it on trips to NOLA, in kabob and sausage form, and it was just awful. I would be really surprised to sample "tender" gator meat.
Belly Boy: I'm certainly no gator expert, but I've always been told that the deep fried version is the way to go.

I've loved gator since getting it a couple decades ago in Stuttgart - and if you can tell the difference between chicken and frog legs, you can taste a different flavor in gator. depending on the cut, it will fall somewhere in between the former flavors. The last two years in Riverfest, I've been able to get pecan-grilled gator kabobs, and let me tell you what, it was good!
any served in a restaurant was once a commercial livestock animal.

Speaking of crab claws, does anyone know of a restaurant in or close to LR that has marinated crab claws like Earnest's in Shreveport?????? Large claws with a marinade similar to Italian Dressing but lighter and more flavorful. Any recipes for marinated crab claws would be appreciated. Thanks!
