Fish from the Market
Feeling like some fried catfish, my favorite food group, I decided to head on over to Peter's Fish Market at 4505 West 12th Street. Three very large (see below) and meaty fish fillets, cole slaw, hush puppies, french fries, and a slice of bread was $7.50. A two piece runs $5.99, but hey, I was all in baby.
The fries, slaw, and hush puppies were certainly quite good, but the real star here was the perfectly breaded and seasoned fish. You make your order, pay, get a ticket number, and begin your wait. Only then do they drop your fillets in the frier. There is nothing like piping hot, fresh cooked catfish. Other items on the friedoliscious menu include shrimp, talapia, perch, and buffalo. You can also buy the fish fresh and take it home to cook yourself. A couple of tables to sit and eat, but its mostly a take-out place. You can call your order in ahead: 666-3456
Got a good fish spot to tell us about?

Grandpa's Catfish in North Little Rock--on the service road--other side of Landers. I never liked the old one because they let people throw peanuts on the floor and I thought that was disgusting. The new one is much cleaner, and the fish is INCREDIBLE. Plus, a three piece catfish filet with coleslaw, fries and hushpuppies is $4. They are by far the best catfish I've ever had.

Is this the same Peter who had/has a Peter's Fish Market in Jacksonville?
Belly Boy: Honestly- I don't know. But you'd think it couldn't just be a coincedence.

I hear you, ArgentaGirl. Grandpa's is great, sans peanut shells.
I made the mistake of ordering the all-you-can-eat deal. It's overkill. 3 piece dinner is more than ample.

You're right about the fish at Grandpa's. Excellent. But, we still miss tossing the peanut shells on the floor at the old place. Darn those insurance folks!

The old Grandpa's was "disgusting"? It's a fishhouse; peanut shells on the floor should be mandatory. I have a feeling we would disagree on much.
I visited the new Grandpa's and was horrified that it looked exactly like every other stale, drab catfish house around. The old grandpa's had trucker hats nailed to the ceiling, decades old menus autographed by politicians tacked to the walls and Patsy Cline and other oldies they played on the stereo gave it a homey, inviting feel. It was a sad day when they left the old location.

I'm with Gloves. I much prefer the old Grandpa's.
I went recently to the new place and didn't care for the small separate rooms and antiseptic atmosphere. I guess the Grandpa's from my childhood is gone just like Snoopy's Daisy Hill Puppy Farm.
My vote would be for Adam's. Consistently great catfish

Cadron Creek Catfish House in Bee Branch.
This one is a little out of the way for Central Arkansas, but it is a great spot to eat catfish on the way up Hwy. 65 to Branson. Also, it's only a 35 minute drive from Conway. Been there many times over the years and always walked away with a full belly and a smile on my face.

I cannot support Adams... They take hot checks. The bastard who stole my wallet wrote a ton of checks to Adams.
As for the peanut shells on the floor, I don't care to have a side of rat or roach with my catfish... There are health codes for reasons,a nd if you've ever spent time in restaurant kitchens around here, you would be shocked what folks can get away with. Here's to sanitizing! Thanks Grandpa's for cleaning it up!
