A taste of Brazil

Nita Daniel provides the photo. Her description:
This is a picture of the Saturday feijoada from Cafe Bossa Nova in Hillcrest. It tastes best when you go a little closer to midafternoon, because there's been more time for the flavors to intensify and meld. And the rice is lovely and tender and of course, a good palette cleanser between those rich, beany bites.

That looks yummy. Mr. EY got me a copy of "Passionate Vegetarian" for Christmas last year and I made her version of feijoada......boy is it GOOD. I'll have to try Bossa Nova's for a more authentic tate!

I confess to being a regular at Bossa Nova. Once or twice a week, at least. I love Rosalia's soups, not least because they have no cornstarch (horrible taste and texture), but also because of the freshness of ingredients (okay, sometimes they are made with recycled leftovers from entrées, but still fresh and not from a can or jar) and the originality of the recipes. One great surprise this summer was a refreshing cold soup of cucumber and avocado, as an alternative to the delicious gazpacho.
Bossa Nova offers plenty of vegetarian options, for those who swing that way, and even some vegan alternatives.
Fresh ingredients, friendly atmosphere, tasty wine list, soothing (never too loud) Brazilian music (where do they find those delicious chords and sultry voices?) and, for me, convenient location (around the corner from my front door), all make Bossa Nova irresistible.
If you haven't been, you gotta go.
