Anybody going to Cregeen's this weekend? -- UPDATE

UPDATE FROM MAX: Cregeen's had a soft opening Thursday. Reports Scott Miller:

Cregeens soft opened today with a limited menu.  Full menu will be available on Friday. Official ribbon cutting will be Friday at 4:00 pm. Ordered the fish and chips which was light and not greasy at all. The Irish stew was served on a bed of mashed potatoes with melt in your mouth large chunks of beef and vegetables. The Guinness is great but probably the best surprise was the Murphy Red.  Try it, it's worth it.

Now, back to Belly Boy:

Max's mouthwatering Irish vacation post is killing me.

I'm pumped about the opening of Cregeen's this weekend in North Little Rock.  When I moved here in 2000, I was shocked at the lack of Irish Pubs.  Most cities have at least one or two.  Here is a pic of an excellent shepard's pie at an Irish pub in Victoria, BC, Canada.

Beef, carrots, onions, peas and beef gravy, oven baked with golden brown mashed potatoes.  Heavenly.

I usually give a restaurant a week or two to work things out, but I may have to break that rule this weekend.

that does look mighty good. i might have to give it a try. my irish background may make me give in and go.

I drive by every day on the way home from work and have been peeking in all week to check on the progress. They were delivering beer at 4:00 yesterday, so I knew it wouldn't be long before they opened the doors! I will be there for dinner after I drive back to Sherwood to pick up my husband. We have both missed our favorite Irish pubs we frequented while living in other cities--Murphy's in Alexandria, Virginia, for me, and O'Leary's in Kansas City for him. It's going to be a long afternoon waiting for that first glass of Guinness!

The spouse & I were there Saturday night, had the fish & chips and a couple of brewskis (1554 from New Belgium is excellent). Noisy place, packed with folks who seemed to all be having a good time & friendly. Reasonable prices and good food but they ought to check the programming on their cash registers as they were only charging 6% on our tab. Other places add on 11%. They'll come up way short on Nov 20th if they don't correct it quickly. We'll be back frequently to try the rest of the menu.
Normal IL has a great Irish pub near the ISU campus, I think it's called Maggie Mae's if you are ever up there don't miss it.
