National Soul Food Cookoff

Mark the calendar, y'all. The National Soul Food Cook-off is coming to the Clear Channel Metroplex Saturday, Feb. 2.

Local cooks are encouraged to enter. There are prizes for meat, vegetable, dessert, bread and misc. homemade items, like pickles, jellies, BBQ sauce and hot sauce. $1000 to the best meat. I love the broadness of just a "meat" category.

The entry fee just to eat is $15, less a dollar if you bring a can of food. Kids six and under get in for free and 7-18 go for $11.

This is the second year it's visited Little Rock. Anyone go last year?

"Taster kits" at the Muskogee cookoff are $7, according to the piece above. Why is LR different? Inquiring minds, hungry stomachs want to know.
