Ninja puts on the dog

Community blogger Ninja Poodle, who also does some fine independent blogging, has been to Victoria and Albert's, the ritzy restaurant at Disney World and she says the three-hour gourmet repast was swell, if a little uncomfortable for a woman who maintained proper posture on the edge of her seat throughout. It's a great report.

Her husband was more relaxed and sang the praises of the seared foie gras with apples and other stuff pictured above.

Glad foie gras is still available here and there. Ciao Baci, for instance, offers it from time to time. I still don't understand what Chicago was thinking when they banned the delicious stuff.

I suppose they believed the PETA lies that the production methods of foie gras somehow constitute torturing the young goslings, which couldn't be more wrong. The geese are fed by the producers in exactly the same way they would be fed by their parents, only using tubes instead of beaks. The goslings, far from fleeing being fed, flock for their turn at the feeding tube. Yes, they flap their wings, as we have all seen baby birds do when being "force-fed" by their parents. It is not a sign of protest or pain but of pleasure at being fed.

Of course, goose parents intend to fatten their babies in preparation for a long migration flight, but domestic geese do not migrate, anyway, and are destined instead for the dinner plate.

I have friends and acquaintances who boycott restaurants that serve foie gras, but I suspect they wouldn't eat *any* kind of liver, anyway. I happen to love it, and foie gras is simply the best there is.
