'Lost' and food

Joel DiPippa reports:
Thursday has become "Lost" night at Chez DiPippa. The best part about having friends over to watch the show, besides a chorus of yelling at the TV, is having some food. Last night, aside from the usual sort of pretzels, chips & salsa, and crackers, we had some very tasty sandwiches.
These started with a ciabatta roll sliced open. First, a layer of prosciutto went down, then a layer of sliced strawberries, and finally a small handful of baby spinach. A quick balsamic reduction was poured on, the top of the roll replaced, and they got a few minutes under the cast iron skillet.
These had a nice balance of the salty, sweet, and tangy flavors. Next time, I think I will give the balsamic reduction some better attention for a fuller flavor.

Dearest Joel
Try this sandwich and report back.
Take one large of the King's Hawaiian bread.
Make five horizontal slices.
One each slice layer ham or turkey with cheddar or swiss cheese. Each layer should also have a condiment. Mustard, mayo or dressing. Try the sweet vidalia onion dressing - like crack in a bottle.
Also include slices of onions in at least two of the layers.
When you cap it, brush with melted butter and a grated hard cheese - parm, romano or a blend.
The pop in the stove at 350 degrees until gooey and golden brown.
Serves a bunch

The sandwich happened when I was trying to make a traditional Italian sandwich involving figs & prosciutto ... and could not find the figs. The strawberries were a fantastic substitution and I have kept this recipe since.
Crash, thanks for that idea. I will try to give it a whirl and let you know. It reminds me of a Twin Peaks inspired sandwich make with some frequency: Take 1 Baguette and cut a slit in the side. Evenly distribute 1 stick of butter & 1/2lb of Brie inside the slit (Never promised it would be healthy). Wrap with aluminum foil and stick in oven until gooey and delicious.
It also works well with Camembert and/or add some garlic cloves for an extra zing.
