All the ribs that are fit to eat

Is this Eat Arkansas-worthy news, I was asked by Jane Dennis. You betcha.

I don't know if this "fits" as far as criteria for the Eat Arkansas blog or elsewhere for Arkansas Times, but wanted to let you know that a Little Rock barbecue team, called Here for the Beer, made the Top 3 (placing third) for their Ribs in the Patio Porkers (nonprofessional) division of the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest this past weekend in Memphis. They were competing with 36 other teams in their division.

Here's a photo of Here for the Beer's entry, just before it was whisked off to the judge's tent for a blind taste test.

Team members: Pat James, Matt House, Jack Fink, Alan Gardner, Richard Phelps and Robert Dennis.

Congrats to the local boys!

Why, Lord yes it fits as far as criteria!

The ribs look beautiful and good enough to eat. Make some around here, fellers, and tell us where we can get them.

Congratulations, too.

These guys are strictly backyard grillers (the rest of the time they are attorneys, a banker, accountant and a hospital administrator). So your best bet for sampling their ribs is to make a note that next year's Memphis in May BBQ contest is the 3rd week in May. Then send me an email -- janedennis@comcast.net -- a week or so prior and you can be invited to come by our tent and sample all you want! Right now MiM is the only competition the guys are entering. Thanks.

As a 6-year veteran certified Memphis-In-May contest judge, I can attest to how difficult it is to place in these contests, and third is awesome. Your blind box presentation looks spot-on. No points off there. Congrats!
