Creperie

Coming in June to the Icehouse Building in Hillcrest: Lemon, which bills itself as “Little Rock’s premier creperie.” A flyer for the restaurant suggests that Lemon will serve sweet and savory crepes for breakfast, brunch and lunch. The address is 2611 Kavanaugh Blvd.

Crepes. I don't get it. Not to stomp on anyone's childhood dream, but who's behind this creperie?
There are a lot of things LR is crying for, but crepes is not one of them. Note to Lemon: if you're going to build a business around a tired old 1970s "Frenchy food is so upscale and exotic" concept, I advise you to go all the way---decorate the space with spider plants and macrame baskets, bookshelves full of Joy of Cookings and Julia Childs, and lots of copper molds on the walls. Maybe some of the old waitresses from the Vineyard at the AAC could come back?

I'm right there with you Mrs. B. Love pancakes (butter only, very little if any syrup and nothing else), but not crepes. I will give these folks a try, just to be fair.

Don't hate crepes. I love them. I started off on the Beef Stroganof and strawberry crepes at Hugo's in Fayetteville. Then I discovered Paul Prudhomme's recipe for seafood crepes (shrimp, crawfish and crab in a spicy, herby cream sauce).

Recently, I had crepes in a French-Vietnamese restaurant in New Orleans that were filled with something like the filling in a Thai fresh spring roll.

Food in a tube is always good, and crepes make delicious tubes.

Bob Dylan's 115th Dream

......I went into a restaurant
Lookin' for the cook
I told them I was the editor
Of a famous etiquette book
The waitress he was handsome
He wore a powder blue cape
I ordered some suzette, I said
"Could you please make that crepe"
Just then the whole kitchen exploded
From boilin' fat
Food was flying everywhere
And I left without my hat......

I have always enjoyed the savory crepes. It should be a nice breakfast and lunch addition for the area.

My buddy, Whoscrumdown, has got it right. Weaned on the delicious crepes at Hugo's while in college, I'm now a crepe fanatic. I buy those premade ones from Frieda's finest in the produce department and fill them with sweet and savory filling. Deliciouso! As soon as I'm off this dadblamed UAMS diet I'm off to try my new neighborhood crepe shop. And probably that new cupcake store while I'm at it. Woo Hoo!
