NLR Farmer's Market

The state’s first “certified Arkansas” farmer’s market will open at 7 a.m. until noon, on Saturday, May 3, in the 400 block parking lot on Main St. (next to the post office) in downtown North Little Rock. Jody Hardin, of Hardin Farms and the Arkansas Basket-a-Month program, is behind this new market. For more information, go to arkansasfood.net.

Hats off to Jody. An excellent venture on all fronts. My days of shopping for veggies Little Rock-side might soon be over.

I like the word "certified." And for the record, when some one as legit is Jody Hardin somewhat abruptly leaves the River Market, you know something's up. You should be begging for a dude like that to stick around, considering what's he's done for the local farmer's movement in this town.

Jody really tried to get things going on the LR side but was thwarted by the RM manager, Shannon Light, as many of the other places that are now missing.

Many people don't realize that some of the vendors ( all in the west pavillion)are selling the same out of state products that you can get a Kroger.

I hate for LR to lose our local farmers. I am thrilled that Jody found a different venue. I will be shopping in NLR from now on.

You're right, eabp... Many of the LR vendors are selling food bought from companies like BenEKeith. I don't even understand how you can call it a "Farmer's Market" if you have no standards or rules for who can sell. All of the vendors at the NLR farmers market are certified, so you know you are buying food that was not only grown in Arkansas, but specifically grown and sold by the vendor you're buying them from.
