I really enjoy your food blog, but I'm blog stupid & couldn't quite figure out how to start a new message.  I just wanted to pass the word along that Rumba (downtown) has a great deal on Tues nights.  Their tapas menu is half price until the kitchen closes.  They also have $3 frozen margaritas & $2 beers (5:00 - 7:00?).  The attached menu has the full prices.

It's quickly becoming my Tues night routine.  I've tried just about everything on the tapas menu & have loved it all.  Highlights for me have been the calamari, the drunken mussels, the scallops, the spicy beef empanadas, the coconut shrimp, and I love the jerk chicken.  The mini sandwiches are pretty darn good too.  Tasty chips & salsa are free.  The portions are generous for appetizers.  My husband & I are hardy eaters & drinkers....a recent bill for drinks and dinner was $21 (and it was really good)!

On pretty days, the back doors are open to the patio.  In the summer months on Sunday nights (6 p.m.), there is live music on the patio.  Can't complain about the build-your-own Bloody Mary bar for Sunday brunch either.  See you there!

Had dinner at Velo Rouge last night. Scallops were outstanding as usual, wines were interesting and delish. Our table tried the crab beignets and they were very good. Service was also good. I was surprised to see it not so crowded on a Friday night, but we got in, had a nice dinner, didn't feel rushed to turn the table.

I was starving after leaving an art gallery thing in WLR Friday night. So I stopped by Fresh Market and picked up a roast beef panini to take home.

It was unbelievably good. I will be happy when Whole Foods can get themselves out of court long enough to open the long-rumored branch over at the Midtowne Mall.

They would make a zillion bucks.

I preface this by saying that I have not ruled out a return visit to Rumba, BUT be wary of the tapas.

I tried a tapas selection for dinner a few weeks ago and was veeeeery ill the next day. Will spare you the details. Take my advice and STAY AWAY FROM THE CEVICHE SHOOTERS!

Quoth Dale Grible from King of the Hill: "I bought sashimi from a gas station. Raw fish at such a conveinient location--what could have gone wrong?"

Stopped in Rumba last night after work and they don't have half priced Margarita's on Tuesday nights. The first Blog mentioned that this was the case. Our waitress said the the blog was misinformed. Thought I would pass this along.

Hmmm, I don't know to make of the Rumba waitress not giving you happy hour prices. I get the cheeper drink prices & it's advertised on their website (4-7).

I'll ask when I'm there next. Thanks for the update.

Cheaper is what I meant to say.....

BTW, just got back from dinner at Hanaroo tonight. Another great meal. Tried the fried oysters; they were a big hit. The tuna was especially fresh & tasty too.

Well, I'm going to put this in here, though I thought there was and EJ's entry once.

Do not, and I repeat, do not get a burger from EJ's down there on 6th and Center. I had one the other day and it was possibly the worst cheese burger I've had in Little Rock. It was not seasoned, like not, seasoned, or had no hint of seasoning had it been. I don't know how it was formed, but that method should be banned under a treaty. The pepper jack cheese was the only thing I didn't want to punch while the high class bun was an unclever rouse. I give it a 0 out of 10, had I not have been home and eating my take out, I would have sent it back with my scoldings.

I do enjoy their fries, though they were burnt, completely the misery of the cheese burger. I will return for one of their other sandwiches and give them a second chance, but maybe they should think about trimming down their menu and concentrating on what they do well. It's hard to not make a decent cheeseburger, like a step above McDonald's burger, and they have failed miserably.

Oh, now I'm mad again at that cheeseburger, I want to punch it in the neck, if it had a neck...

Hello. I was really curious about the Rumba drink special prices raised by Raven. Here's what the owner wrote to me about some recent changes. Not quite as good, but I'm still a fan:

Beginning Monday, May 5th our happy hour prices were changed (which used to be any bottled beer $2, frozen margaritas and house wine $3 from 4-7). This was done for the shear necessity of the business as we are constantly undergoing price increases from our vendors. We still offer $2 Mojitos and Margaritas on Monday nights, ½ price tapas on Tuesdays, and an extended Happy Hour on Wednesdays. Happy Hour runs Monday through Friday from 4-7 p.m. and the new special consists of a $1 off any drinks of choice and free chips and salsa.
