Panera Bread in LR

Panera Bread, the national bakery/cafe chain, announces it will soon open four stores in the Little Rock area. The first is to open by September in the Pleasant Ridge Town Center on Highway 10.

Another chain. Great.

*yawn*

I LIVED on St. Louis Bread Co. when I was in college (in St. Louis, of course)!!! That was before Au Bon Pain changed the name and took them national. As long as they haven't messed with the SLBC chicken salad, I'll be a happy camper!

I'm not a big fan of chains, but these guys are really good. I've eaten at a few, and always wondered why we don't have any here. Their bread is top notch and the sandwiches are very nice. Community Bakery is said to have been modeled after this place. This was when they made decent bread there. That was long ago. Hopefully, these guys can keep Boulevard honest, and maybe I won't have to spend $7 on a good loaf of bread.

Ditto on the anti-chain sentiment -- but also ditto on the Panera Bread fandom. Great soups.

Hope there's one scheduled for Midtown/Hillcrest.

I've been hoping for a Panera Bread for years after having eaten at one when I was out of town. I never could understand how Fayetteville, Springfield MO, etc had one and we didn't. Excellent sandwiches, soups, salads etc. at reasonable prices and mix and match combos. Their bread etc from their bakery is the best. It can't get here soon enough for me!

I'm with Mordy. If the St. Louis Bread company's recipes and quality haven't been compromised by getting gobbled up by a bigger franchise (a large if, admittedly), I'll be first in line for a roast beef on asiago bread with horseradish sauce.

I'll admit it. I try to avoid big chains as much as I can. I'll give them a chance, though.
