Tortilla flats busted
This will not stand.
I visited the Buffalo Grill in Riverdale last night to pick up the family's standing to-go order, a grilled tuna platter and the tortilla flat.
I first got a warning.
The tortilla flat has been changed. No longer do they heap cheddar cheese atop the mound of chips, chili, onions, tomato, olives, jalapenos and lettuce, then run it under a broiler for a melted cheese cap.
No. Instead, they give you a cup of cheese dip to pour over the top as you choose.
This is NOT a tortilla flats, perhaps the defining dish at Buffalo Grill, the thing that set it apart from every other restaurant in town. It is just a taco salad, or cheese dip on top of salad.
Nacho lovers will be sorry to learn the same routine applies. No more cheese-topped chips melted under a broiler. It gets the cup-of-dip treatment, too. (Nothing wrong with the Grill's dip, but it's not the same in this application.)
Explanation: The salamander, or the wall-mounted broiler in which the dishes were finished, is on its way out to make room for some new equipment. They're apparently thinking of adding fried catfish.
You can get catfish hundreds of places. Until recently, you could get the tortilla flats only at Buffalo Grill. No more. (This change is coming at the Bowman Road location, too.)
The end of family life as we knew it.

NO! Next thing you know they'll stop offering their apple pie a la mode with Cheddar cheese.

Stopped by for lunch yesterday and nearly fainted at the prices. Everything on the menu had been raised at least a dollar. I know that doesn't sound like much, but six dollars and some change for a cheeseburger (WITHOUT fries..that will cost you an extra $2). Tab for 2 people came to $26 w/tip. The area employees facing potential unemployment will probably be cutting back on eating lunch there at those prices. I know this one will.

The salamander is such a fantastic piece of equipment ... I am saddened when any restaurant stops using one.

What you bet that if you order the tortilla flats you don't get a warning that it's new and unimproved? Hope I'm wrong ... Also agree with the commenter on the price increase. Look at the price on the chili dog and think of the raw ingredient cost and roughly calculate THAT profit margin.
Got hoodwinked yesterday on a price change at Sticky Fingerz. Have long enjoyed the $2 bottle beer happy hour, since it includes a wide variety of tasty stuff, including Bass, Amstel Light, Newcastle, Red Stripe, etc. Reviewed the list yesterday on the same old card that is displayed in a plexiglass sheath on the table and the deal was the same, as were the choices. But when bill came the imports were $3.50 apiece, a tidy 75 percent increase over the advertised price. Waitress told us the deal had changed this week but that no new table cards had been printed. The mildest of smirks prompted her to quickly say, "I'll get a manager if you want me to." We didn't want to escalate the complaint, so at that point we waved off the defensive reply and paid our tab.

I, too, was disappointed to get BG's news. I will no longer order the nachos/flats.
