Whole Foods opens, finally
After a power outage set it back last week, Whole Foods will celebrate its grand opening Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 7:45 a.m. through Sunday. There'll be live music, cooking demonstrations and lots of specials.
But as you might've read in Jennifer Reed's last shopping column, just as soon as the new Whole Foods sign is up up, it may have to come down again. A U.S. appeals court recently reopened the monopoly claim the Federal Trade Commission pursued soon after the merger was announced last year. Anti-trust experts have said that while undoing the deal would be difficult, it wouldn't be impossible. There's no immediate timetable for the federal district court to rule on the case.

A fashion show featuring goods from Whole Foods and neighboring boutique Beyond Cotton will begin at 4 pm. “Our number one goal is to provide the community with great tasting foods that meet Whole Foods Market’s high quality standards,” said Jason Lowery, store manager. “This week-long grand opening event is our way of welcoming the community into our world and bring our community together for a week of entertainment, food sampling, and fun. We want to show our city just how delicious and fun food can be.”
Whole Foods Market believes that food in its purest state - free of artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, preservatives and hydrogenated oils – is not only the healthiest choice, but also the best tasting one. The new Little Rock store offers an impressive selection of fresh seafood and meats, cheeses from around the world, an olive bar, fresh sushi prepared daily, and nearly hundreds of bulk items. In addition to delicious entrées and side dishes made fresh every day, the Prepared Foods section will feature a rotisserie, a salad bar, and fresh soups.
Whole Foods Market is proud to offer a fine selection of vitamins, supplements, herbs, cosmetics and natural body care products in the Whole Body Department. Whole Foods does not carry products that are tested on animals.
“At Whole Foods Market, we passionately support the communities we serve,” said Charlotte Hall, store marketing specialist, “We will be partnering with many nonprofit groups in Little Rock, helping to maintain the sense of community, friendship and enthusiasm that exists here.”
This is the first Whole Foods Market to open in the state of Arkansas. Store hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., daily.

You mean Beans & Grains, right? Or "weeds and seeds," as we used to call it. Or Wild Oats Market. Or whatever the heck it's being called today.
After reading the press release -- really, how is it any different than any of the aforementioned stores?
