In Arkansas, don't miss ...

The Fayetteville Trucker provides the following:

Garden & Gun, the slick magazine from Charlotte, N.C. has a November cover story (with a doomsday black skillet of golden cornbread for its cover art) "The Best Southern Foods: 100 Things You Simply Must Eat Before You Die."

Mentioned on the list from Arkansas are: McClard's BBQ's famous TAMALE SPREAD, that chia-pet looking concoction of cheese, tamales, chili beans and chopped beef barbecue. Ashley's in the Capital Hotel is listed for its snackworthy fried black eyed-peas; Craig's BBQ in DeVall's Bluff for their signature sliced pork sandwich with slaw; Mary Maestri's in Tontitown for Italian salad.

Hot Springs is also mentioned in Small Town section. A nice little write up

What I wouldn't give for a tamale spread (with slaw) right now. What I wouldn't give for a photo of same just to treasure in bleak moments.

UPDATE: A friend sent a link to a spread photo, minus the required slaw on the side.
