Take Out Time.
There are certain times of the year where sitting down to a table with family is important. What follows within a matter of days (and sometimes hours) is the incredible urge to let someone else cook.
For us, it's the day after Christmas, a time to pull out the menus and see what take-out offering is tempting. Tonight, we went for Pei Wei, with its reasonable prices and decent sized portions. The hubster went for the Spicy Korean Beef ($8.25), while I chose the Honey Seared Chicken ($7.75), and we split an order of spring rolls ($3.75 for two or $6.95 for six). His order had a nice spicy bite and lots of carrots, while mine spoke more to the comfort food arena. The rice was fluffy -- exactly what you don't look for when pulling out the chopsticks -- but the spring rolls were delicious and light with a solid whap of ginger, decently refreshing in an appetizer usually served grease-engaged.
There are a good number of take-out options in Central Arkansas. Whether it's the six-pack from Mexico Chiquito, spuds from McAlister's, pies from Damgoode or U.S. Pizza Co. or a sauce-soaked family pack from Sim's, the choices are varied and widespread. So, now that the relatives are heading home and turkey leftovers are beginning to become tiresome, we'd like to know -- what's your favorite take-out? Share your take-away treasure in our comment section.

If I want to work on that heart attack a bit, it's the 6 pack from Mexico Chiquito. Where else for 4.99+tax can you leave with 6 fine tacos, beans and rice. Throw down for some mexican punch and you're in business.
That said, the one thing that gets me out in West LR is the lack of extremely late (past 1-ish) takeout. Pretty much you're stuck with Taco Bell or Taco Bell. Even McD's locks her up at 10 or 11.

Say Max or anyone else out there in Blogville - can you point me to a past issue or list of late nite food joints, other than fast food, waffle house and IHOP?..I was out last night after watching Benjamin Button around 10PM hungry looking for a late night snack...adult and kid friendly?
thanks

One of my favorites for take-out is in Conway. The Cajun Shrimp Alfredo from Mickie's is the stuff you only get to dream about. Spicy, saucy and a tender shrimp in nearly every bite. I've had the Blackened Chicken Alfredo, but the Cajun Shrimp ROCKS!

Can't say that we've done any takeout, but I have had Mexican for lunch twice in 2 days. I gotta say, Las Palmas in Springdale is leaps and bounds better than the same named joint in Conway. No connection, other than the name. A few friends and I are going to try to cut back on the eating out over the next few weeks and I'm very much looking forward to it.
My "at home" dinner last night was yellow rice and broiled asparagus. Yum-me. (not that I wouldn't have loved me some Pei Wei, but not enough to venture to LR for)

Flying Fish does a pound of hot shrimp, well spiced and served with a couple of new taters and a half ear of corn -- for $12.49 and it travels well. (Compare that price to what you pay anywhere else; it's a bargain!) Add a large gumbo, and you've got a great meal for two for less than $10 a head. Gumbo also travels well in its styro container, and it continues to be the very best in town -- dark, dark roux with plenty of decent-sized shrimp.

The burritos from Casa Manana on the Rivermarket are tasty. A pizza from Damgoode pies is, well, damgoode.
I do love me some Pei Wei. They serve brown rice but I had a problem with the pot stickers. They were shaped in a way that wasn't conducive to eating. They were too large to put in your mouth whole. They were fried to a crisp and I ended up stabbing the top of my mouth with one of the corners. Also, it was a little overfried. Click the name.

I must say that the wife and I don't usually do take out. If we go to a restaurant we eat there, at home it is usually a cook it there, or a heat up the leftovers endeavor. On the rare occasion of take out, it is the old standbys, Sonic or Subway. Yes, I know not haught cuisine, but filling, and for the most part tasty. Though in our area there are not many options for take out, and whatever we picked up in Little Rock on the way home from work would be cold, or at lease significantly cooled by the time we got home.
