Legend's Tribute

Doug Krile pays tribute to Mike Maynard, the man behind Shaka Smoke Lodge, on the Examiner blog.  Two years gone, and Maynard's absence is still felt in the River Market.

Comments

I was at the River Market the other day for lunch. I used to be involved with one a former vendor over there 3--4 years ago (time flies).

Anyway, I saw where Shaka was throwing in the towel. The businesses that were extant back in those halcyon days that I hung out there are reduced to 4. Now 3.

I took about a two year hiatus from the River Market. When I returned I learned that Mike had passed away. He was a very nice man and in a very real sense he was the cornerstone of that pavilion.

Losing Shaka will be a real blow during a tough time. I wish the best to the family. And I will be sure to get down there for some white chile before they leave.

Make that chili.
