Food Fun.

There's still time to make it out to the Argenta Foodie Festival... though it's hot, it's also packed with all sorts of neat foods, including Texas style beef ribs, boudin made from Arkansas pork and rice, corn salsa-topped burger sliders, fried green tomatoes, roasted corn, fried pies and lots of different sorbets, slushes, and smoothies. The area is packed with folks checking out the likes of more than a dozen food vendors, along with all the bounty of the Certified Arkansas Farmers Market. Better hurry -- it all ends at 2pm.

Whew! Was it H-O-T!! But wouldn't be Arkansas on 4th of July if it wasn't.
As was typical of the first anything, the vendors weren't able to accurately judge how much of what they should bring. We got there sometime between 10:30-11am, and some had already run out of a few things. Extremely promising for next year though!
I had Chicken & Andouille Gumbo and Watermelon Granita from Ashley's. The gumbo was as good as anything you'd find in NOLA, and the granita was full of flavor and perfect on such a hot day. Also had a roasted ear of corn from a BBQ vendor.
Other's in the family had some BBQ, fried rice from Lily's (and I believe I saw Kathy Webb cooking up each order??? If so, what a trooper! I didn't see that she had any help, but I didn't pay a lot of attention), a slice of Watermelon from Starving Artists, and Peach Smoothie from Creegans (Irish Peach Smoothies?? That one didn't make much sense to me, but it got a thumbs up from Mom).
Can't wait for the Second Annual Foodie Fest!

Don't forget the nearby Arts & Crafts market. And, downtown Argenta does a nice job of putting out blooms to make the area more colorful and appealing.
