Catching up
I finally found some time to catch up on what I've missed. I saw Casino Royale, A Good Year and Babel.
Casino Royale is a real pleasure ride. It's a bit too long and has too many endings, but it is far better than any of the previous Bond films.
A Good Year is a damn mess. Russell Crowe walks around talking through his nose and acting generally ridiculous. The plot is slapped together and misses many opportunities. It doesn't even make the food look good, which was one of the virtues of Under the Tuscan Sun.
Babel is remarkable. It's a very intense, beautiful film. Rinko Kikuchi gives a remarkable performance a deaf-mute Japanese girl struggling with life after her mother's suicide. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Guillermo Arriaga have done it again.
