"Atonement" the latest film from Joe Wright ("Pride & Prejudice") starring Kiera Knightly, James McAvoy and Vanessa Redgrave will open the 64th Venice Film Festival.  The festival begins August 29th and runs through September 8th.  The film is an adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel of the same title which won several awards including the Commonwealth Prize in 2002, the Smith Literary prize in 2002, the National Book Critics' Circle Fiction Award in 2003, the Los Angeles Times Prize for Fiction in 2003 and the Santiago Prize for the European Novel in 2004.

Was helicopter worth it?

A 45-year-old wildlife officer with the state Game and Fish Commission patrolling for game law violators from aboard the agency's helicopter was killed Nov. 16 when the helicopter crashed in a field. /more/
