I honestly don't see how to make a faithful film out of "Bones" though maybe K&K has a shot..."Dunces" has been in the works for so long that I'm really afraid that it's going to get butchered...and that would be a shame. Off the top of my head, I'm immediately overwhelmed at the thought of simply casting a lead! WHO in the WORLD can be Ignacious? Any thoughts on that? (Apologies if I should have read the LAist piece before commenting here, if it contains answers to my comment/questions. Going there now.)

It's me again. I just read their accounts and the casting rumors so far. Interesting that the two projects with the highest possible "botch factor" are A Confederacy of Dunces and Dave Eggars' A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, which I , personally, do NOT see translating to film...unless it gets made into something altogether different from the book, which is a book's BOOK, you know?
Now back to "Dunces," since it is dear to my heart: WILL FERRELL AND DREW BARRYMORE? Are they kidding? The unattractiveness of the characters and places in this novel are so important...how do I put this? It's like "Ugly" is another character. Right alongside "Beauty" to make sure we "get it." I can't see WF as Ignacius, especially, oh PLEASE don't let this be so, if they put him in a fat suit and prosthetics.
Please, Hollywood, if you must do this, give the part to a naturally portly character actor with the stones to pull it off. This is the role of a lifetime--don't let it be a joke. This book is just too important, and has too tragic a history of its own, before it was ever published, to be insulted.
