I'm not sure what to make of the trailer for Mike Newell's adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' novel "Love in the Time of Cholera." I suppose the first thing that came to my mind was the trailer for John Curran's "The Painted Veil," which was an adaptation of M. Somerset Maugham's novel. I wasn't wowed with the trailer for that film, but the cast and the director (Curran directed "We Don't Live Here Anymore" in 2004) intrigued me. I suppose the same can be said of "Cholera" which bears an accomplished director (Newell directed "Donnie Brasco," "Four Weddings and a Funeral," and one of the Harry Potter films) and an impressive cast that includes Javier Bardem, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Benjamin Bratt, John Leguizamo and Liev Schreiber. I'll be interested to see if my reaction to "Cholera" is the same as "The Painted Veil." I doubt it.
