MOVIEGOER REVIEW:  RENDITION

Last week, President Bush's nominee for Attorney General Micheael Mukasey appeared before Congress to address his credentials for the office.  During that time, he answered several questions about torture, and whether the United States should be engaged in the practice.  "Rendition," Gavin Hood's follow-up to his Oscar-winning film "Tsotsi" raises similar questions.  Starring Reese Witherspoon, in her first film since nabbing the Best Actress Oscar for "Walk the Line," Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Alan Arkin and Meryl Streep, "Rendition" had all of the makings for a thoughtful, painful and overwhelmingly satisfying drama about the way the United States approaches information gathering in the age of terror.  Unfortunately, you'd get more satisfaction watching Mukasey answer questions.  This film is dull, and offers nothing memorable about issues critical to Americans today.
