Controversy continues to swirl around "The Kite Runner," Marc Forster's marvelous adaptation of Khaled Hosseini's novel of the same title. Now, the children in the film contend that they were misled, and if they had it all to do over again, they never would have been in the film. This is an unfortunate situation for all (several of the children say they can no longer walk to school alone), and it's likely to have an impact on the film's Oscar hopes. Each year, it seems, one film's controversy (whether it be historical accuracy, disruptions over marketing, or whatever) ruins it's Oscar hopes. If "The Kite Runner" is this year's victim, it will be a shame. It's a career-affirming work for Forster and should be appropriately recognized as such.
