THE MOVIEGOER"S ALTERNATIVE OSCAR PICKS

It was a great year for film, as I've written time and again.  And in great years, some of the best performances and films get left out in the cold.  In the second annual Moviegoer Alternative Oscar Picks, I give you films, performances and writers that in an alternative world should have been Oscar contenders.

Best Picture:  "Zodiac," "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," "Sunshine," "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Once."

Best Director:  David Fincher ("Zodiac"), Danny Boyle ("Sunshine"), Charles Burnett ("Killer of Sheep"), Paul Greengrass ("The Bourne Ultimatum") and Cristian Mungiu ("4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days")

Best Actor:  Don Cheadle ("Talk to Me"), Seth Rogen ("Knocked Up"), Cillian Murphy ("Sunshine"), Joseph Gordon Levitt ("The Lookout"), Michael Shannon ("Shotgun Stories")

Best Actress:  Evan Rachel Wood ("Across the Universe"), Jennifer Jason Leigh ("Margot at the Wedding"), Anamaria Marinca ("4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days), Marketa Irglova ("Once"), Keri Russell ("Waitress")

Best Supporting Actor:  Andy Griffith ("Waitress"), Robert Downey, Jr. ("Zodiac"), Steve Zahn ("Rescue Dawn"), Chiwetel Ejiofor ("Talk to Me"), Jack Black ("Margot at the Wedding")

Best Supporting Actress:  Marisa Tomei ("Before the Devil Knows You're Dead"), Sydney Poitier ("Death Proof"), Taraji P. Henson ("Talk to Me"), Laura Vasiliu ("4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days"), Emily Blunt ("The Jane Austen Book Club")

Best Original Screenplay: Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg ("Superbad"), Quentin Tarantino ("Death Proof"), Jeff Nichols ("Shotgun Stories")

Best Adapted Screenplay:  Robin Swicord ("The Jane Austen Book Club"), Ben Affleck and Aaron Stockard ("Gone Baby Gone"), Halsted Welles, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas ("3:10 to Yuma")
