Gettin' Out: Saturday-Sunday

Rock. Blues. Local. Get on out tonight. Dig?

John Lee Hooker Jr., as in the son-of the "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom," bluesman, will be at Sticky Fingerz tonight. This is his first time down here, so let's make him welcome. Our much beloved woman-led blues band Charlotte Taylor and Gypsy Rain will open at 9 p.m. For some of you going to the Blues Festival on the North Side, this would be a great way to cap off the evening. ($10)...except possibly blues act Cosmic Biscuit, playing in Maumelle at Lucky's (1101 Murphy Drive), from 8 p.m.-midnight. ($5)

Tonight, at Downtown Music: American Princes, Mid States and also on the bill, we read from the flyer: Two Spines. We can't and won't stop raving about the American Princes.  They start at 9 p.m., all ages, $5.

As part of the "Give Earth a Dance" event: Greasy Greens are playing tonight from 7:30-11 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church (1818 Reservoir Road) You still have time to make it. Call 680-6424. Admission is $15.

Mo' music tonight:

Bombay Black at West End tonight. 10 p.m.; $5.

Further Down with Stranger Than Fiction and Caliber at the Cornerstone in NLR starting at 9 p.m.

Chris Denny with Sara Thomas at White Water Tavern. 10 p.m.; $5.

Adam Hambrick with the Follow at Juanita's. 9:30 p.m.; $7.

Texarkana returns tonight at Midtown Billiards on Main, starting at 1 a.m.-ish. Memberships at the door.

In Conway at Soundstage:

Don't Die Cindy!, Materia Medica, Fire to Reason. 8 p.m. All ages. $5.

Tomorrow:

John Corbett, yes, the actor from "Northern Exposure," and "Sex in the City" has a band. They're a legit, down to earth country rock outfit with an album and some hits on CMT. Wideawake opens 7:30 p.m. Cover is $10.

We like the sassy title of the River City Men's Chorus concert on Sunday: "Just For the Fun of It." And we might go, just for that. All kidding aside: they are one of our favorite men's choruses: right there beside Chanticleer and the Harlem Boy's Choir. AND it's free, at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. There's also a Monday concert at 7 p.m. should you miss that.

Also free and worthwhile to check out: the UALR Songwriters Showcase at the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall on campus. It's 3 p.m. tomorrow.
