Review: Amyb on John Lee Hooker Jr.

AmyB checked out the John Lee Hooker Jr. show on Saturday night at Sticky Fingerz and files this report:
It was all that I expected: The John Lee Hooker Jr. show was all about dancing, drinking and booty shaking Saturday night At Sticky Fingerz.
I spoke with him before his show, where he was hocking his new CDs, and yes, the resemblance to Dad is striking. I introduced myself, and he asked for my business card. It was quite dark in there, and I found out later I had accidentally given him a Cupid’s lingerie business card. Hope he didn’t get the wrong idea. Too late now.
I missed Charlotte Taylor’s opening set. She said it went great, and I wish that I could’ve seen her band on a bigger stage. Pub or Perish was going on at the Peabody, Hotel and I missed them by just a few minutes.
Backing up Hooker the younger was a really excellent, on-time,. smokin’ group four young guys: bass, guitar, keys, drums. I could almost say that I was more impressed by them than Hooker, himself. He loyally did covers like “Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom,” That’s where, in my Jet Li-acrobatic-dance merriment accidentally kicked a lady’s beer out of her hand. Whoever you were, please come find me, I owe you two. And a shot.
The audience trickled in slowly, making the dance floor full by the end of the show, and the ladies were given the ogle-eye and a little mini-serenade if they ventured to the front.
Culturally relevant and delightfully entertaining, and somehow I felt like I was able to see, at least, the next best thing to John Lee Hooker himself. - AmyB
