Gettin' Out: Thursday with the Munks

I previously said 8 p.m., but do you really want to get at a party right when it starts? Ahem, uh yeah, ….The listening party (meet and greet?) for the Munks new CD (and a really good one it is) starts tonight at 6 p.m. at the Fountain Grill on Kavanaugh. I spoke briefly to the drummer, Brooks Browning (remember him in Raudive Voices?). All of the songs were written by soft-spoken pianist and lead vocalist Aaron Grimm..lots of lap steel, flowing keys …"Heartbreak Numbers” was a perfect name for the album. No admission.

There are some real lovers of the college country of Bleu Edmonson. If you like Cory Branan you’ll probably like Bleu. Jarrod Birmingham opens tonight at 9:30 p.m. Cover is $6. www.myspace.com/bleuedmondson.

Michael Jukes headlines tonight at White Water. Check out his stuff: http://jukesmusic.com/. Southern American Storytelling Rock.
Crony of the Fat Possum label folks, Jim Mize (who we dig ‘cause he recorded with our baby daddies, T-Model Ford, on their album “Bad Man.”)
When he’s on, he’s on, we can tell you that. 10 p.m. $5.

Start on the two, that’s my advice if you go to Salsa lessons with Marcus Howard at Argenta Coffee Company, 318 Main St. He’s a fun instructor, and they ladies that that work there provide encouragement from behind the counter. Bring your own partner if you can, if not, it’s all good. $5, 7-9 p.m.

It’s college night at Bada-Bing college ID (your own of course) gets you in free. Doors open at 8 p.m. Then go boogie all night/day, as they stay open ‘til 5 a.m.

Also:

Late night at Midotwn, and the name speaks for itself: Good Life Rhythm and Blues Review. 1 a.m.-ish, you all that that don’t have day jobs.. Or if you do, you might as well stay up all night and be at work early (guilty). Memberships are available at the door.
