Gettin' Out: Tuesday

They’re beginning to be our favorite eclectic reggae band (with love and respect to One Stone, of course). Fire and Brimstone are at Cajun’s Wharf tonight at 8 p.m. They do it all: cumbia, rock and rap, rhythm and blues … good stuff. And tonight shold be a good time to check out Cajun's deck seating. $5.

This is beside the point, but isn’t “rhythm” one of the hardest words to spell? I tried 4 times before I gave up and used spell check … anyway …..

All ages rock at Juanita's for the little and big kiddies: As Tall As Lions appear with Junior Varsity and Cassino tonight at 9 p.m. wear your Buster Browns. Don’t tell them I said that.

Also, as always, ‘cause I can’t forget my blues buddies: blues jam tonight at the Press Box with Charlotte Taylor and Gypsy Rain. Last Tuesday I went and saw none other than Ms. Essie the Blues Lady. She would be a cult figure in Eurpoe or Japan, or maybe in a bigger U.S. city. Check out her page www.myspace.com/essietheblueslady. She’s is a great, genuine lady and she know’ how to wear a scarf, yes’m. She did “Being Broke Is the Pits,” and ‘I Ain’t Cooking Nothin’” (my favorites, which I’ve been known to spin on the radio). Anyway: shout out to you Ms. Essie. Also, I finally got to meet Chris DeClerk (lead guitarist, voaclist of Weakness for Blondes), he also made an appearance. A really niuce guy, and he covers some old blues and Grateful Dead numbers quite accurately. He backed up Essie, and I thought that was pretty cool as well ... I’m not saying either one will show up tonight: I’m just sayin’, you never know. If anything, Charlotte Taylor and her band are worth the $5. Jam starts at 9:30 p.m.-ish.

Jazz pianist Rusty White at the Afterthought. No cover 8 p.m.

There’s a rumor that bass player T.J. for Free Verse is moving to Colorado, and Free Verse will be playing their last gig with him this Saturday at the Cornerstone … say it isn’t so … it’s just a rumor, right? Somebody clue us in ….

Werid Dreams:
I’ve been dreaming about Riverfest, and it’s been a few times. Literally. Aaron Neville and Del McCoury were performing at the same night, same time (in my dream), and I was torn. They were asking (personally, in my dream, like I said) me to choose, and I couldn’t. I went to see the gymnastics so that I wouldn’t hurt their feelings, so I missed out on both. Weird. Anyway:

It’ll be a great weekend at Riverfest and beyond:, and in the clubs column (out on Thursday): I noticed that there are gonna be a lot of great soul and rap acts this upcoming weeks ...

Get out tonight, but don’t hurt yourself … so much music coming up ….
