How about some pre-Riverfest shaved ice?

Our neighbors in the Heritage West bulding, Pokey D's, have a cool way to beat the heat beginning today, so it will be a good stopping place if you're outside the Riverfest gates: Hawaiian Shaved Ice.

Owner Steve Leeks says he should be able to begin serving the shaved ice at 4 p.m., and he'll be open Saturday as well. Leeks says he's got more than 20 different flavors, and you can mix up to three. A small shaved ice is $2, a large is $3.

When Steve worked the Juneteeth event last year at Riverfest Amphitheatre, he says he went through 180 bags of ice.

Also, while we're big fans of the Riverfest lineup of food, we've got to say that if you're looking for a great burger,  you might want to first check out Pokey D's. It's one of our favorites.
