Mayor: No parking tickets will be issued Friday near Robinson
There is a little news nugget in Mayor Jim Dailey's statement mourning the passing of Paul Eells, the longtime voice of the Razorbacks and KATV sportscaster: It's that on Friday afternoon, no parking tickets will be issued in the vicinity of Robinson Center while the memorial service for Eells in in progress.
The service begins at 2 p.m., and the public is welcome to attend.
Here's Dailey's full statement on the death Monday night of the broadcasting legend, killed in car wreck on I-40 in Russellville:
“Like my fellow Arkansans, I am still in shock and deeply saddened by the death of Paul Eells. He was truly an institution in this city and state. When he moved to Arkansas he embraced this state and her people. We, in turn, embraced him. Wherever he traveled, he was an outstanding ambassador for Little Rock and Arkansas.
“Through his TV and radio career and his work with countless charitable causes, Paul touched us all. The outpouring of condolences from throughout the state is a testament to his outstanding character. He was humble, supportive, and a genuinely nice guy.
“Because we are all dealing with this loss, it is fitting that a public memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, at 2 pm at Robinson Center Music Hall. On Friday afternoon, Little Rock Parking Enforcement will not be issuing tickets to cars parked at meters in downtown in the vicinity of Robinson Center Music Hall. People attending the memorial service should not have to be concerned with getting a ticket because the meter expired.
“My prayers are with Paul’s family, his KATV family, and his Razorback family. We will miss Paul greatly.”
