The Mind of Matt: Partying in Hot Springs

DATELINE HOT SPRINGS, Friday, Aug. 26 -- We enjoyed a really good late night dinner at The Back Porch. The steaks at lobster were excellent. The prices were reasonable for surf & turf, and the service was outstanding. Stopped by Terry Martins. He is such a
nice person. He was doing a little blues tonight. He is a seasoned musician
with excellent blues guitar skills. The bar has what seems like 50 guitars on the walls. There is a significant amount of Harley Davidson memorabilia thru out the building. There should be a HUGE crowd for the up coming bike rally in Hot Springs.

Today’s main gig however is SMYLYS Crab Shack. The location is 4916 Central Ave. 501-525-3442. Dee is a very quick and exceptional waitress. Ask for Dee when you stop by! Good job girl. She took care of my entire crew. Well done!

The house band is HELL’S KITCHEN. Jim Harris needs to consider these
guys for The Arkansas Times Musicians Show Case. They specialize in Classic
Rock. The do modern rock as well and are SUPER about requests. They
even played a little Prince for a lady in the crowd. They shine however when
covering the music they grew up with and love. Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC,
Rolling Stones, CCR is their era. Think of a rock song released between
’65 and ’80 and ask for it. They will go for the gold! After encouragement
from me, we got some tunes from’80 to ’85. I don’t really think those are the songs they play on a weekly basis however. But, as I said they are accommodating fellas. Mike Taber is the guitar player. He is really skilled at covering his favorite tunes, and explodes on anything from AC/DC. Chuck Young is behind the drum kit. He is likeable person and
easy to talk to about music. Jim Ferguson is the bass man, and handles vocal
duties as well (Kip Winger anyone?). This part of the unit has played
together for about five years. Gary Puddy is the new keyboardist. I say
new, but he has been with them for a little over a year. A good time
was had by all! Check these boys out. It is a fun time down by the lake. To
book this band, and you should, call Mike Taber @ 501-617-3402

On the evening of July 20, a concerned aunt drove her 26-month-old nephew to a Department of Human Services office in Little Rock to show caseworkers the bruises on his buttocks and back. The child had been spending the night at his aunt's when she changed his diaper and discovered the marks. /more/
