Will the Travs ever win again?
Some teams mail in the season, and some just don't even bother even caring to do that. Our Travs are finishing the last season at Ray Winder Field by going out with barely a whimper. On the coincidental note, the Travs opened Ray Winder back in 1932 by winning about 33 percent of their games. If they were wearing those anything that looked like those "replica" 1932 jerseys given out a couple of weeks ago, it's no wonder. Probably all that team deserved.
The Travs fans deserve a little better effort than this, though, even if the Angels' latest superstar shortstop moved on a few days ago. Too bad only a tiny bit of Angels' good pitching ever showed up this season.
Hope you caught some of Jared Weaver last year, though; he's been a sensation for the parent club these past few weeks. And Howie Kendrick, who was hardly here for more than a cup of coffee last year, is featured in SI, as our Travelerocity blog pal notes.
Speaking of, we haven't seen anything out of Travelerocity in a few days. Guess the August dog days have taken their toll. We need our fix.
Home games the rest of the way folks, starting Saturday. Afternoon games on Sunday and Monday, both at 2 p.m. Night games this Saturday and Tuesday through the following Friday (the last one at the stadium), before 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, and the finale at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. Get your tickets to the last game now; they've printed up souvenir tickets for that one. Call 664-1555.
