The Mind of Matt: Detroit Rock City

Rock fan a movie fan Matt Smith blogs from Detroit:

Got into Detroit on Thursday. We are staying at the Renaissance Center. This is a superb location. There are great views of the Detroit River and Windsor, Canada, which is right across the river. The Ambassador Bridge and
Belle Isle look awesome from here. Comerica Park for the Tigers games, Joe Louis Arena for the Redwings, and Ford Field for the Lions are within easy walking distance. This is another sports town that well represents all four major games of play in America. Looking around it is hard to  believe that there are 10 United States cities that are larger than Detroit.

We saw Jessie Jackson in the hotel bar. He is in Detroit for a  Leadership Summit. Of course, he is staying at the Ren Cen. We got a photo with Jessie, because I am sure I look liberal enough. His bodyguard shook the camera while taking the picture so it is blurry. I will have to see if  Jim Harris can clean it up and we will submit it to the Arkansas Times.

Hit the Hard Rock Café for food and drinks. This is a travel ritual  for me. I try to visit all of them, but it is not about the food. I go
for the décor. See, my house is covered with signed concert t-shirts, posters, drum sticks, guitars on the wall, framed photos with me and band
members and rock stars. Sitting at the Hard Rock watching the plasma screen is like being at home.

More from Detroit later…
