The Mind of Matt: Going out last weekend

Matt Smith gets out -- a lot. You might want to know where he was last weekend and check out some of these places this weekend:

We stopped by The Markham Street Grill with Joe Franklin from KABZ-FM, 103.7 The Buzz. The main attraction was Ben Byers playing guitar. He has a
great acoustic set. Ben plays with Doug Bramlett. These boys had been
known for great cover songs of bands like Dave Matthews, but things have changed recently. Now, they play their own tunes. The songs are good, easy to listen to and smooth. I enjoyed being able to eat my meal without being overwhelmed by the music. It was there, more so than say hearing a pianist over dinner, but it wasn’t too much. There was just the right volume level for a meal. You can hear Ben & Doug @ www.myspace.com/bpbyers

By the way, fhe food came to our table quickly. The steaks were fine, and reasonably priced. There wasn’t a parking problem on this visit, unlike the last time I stopped by. I had a much better time at the grill and pub on this trip.

The Loony Bin Comedy Club was our next stop. We hit this spot with Jeff Allen from KKPT-FM, 94.1 The Point. There is always plenty of parking in this shopping center. The three comics were adequate; it was funny enough, I guess. The problem here is, mainly, you can’t call ahead to reserve a table, and no reservations are a pain. Basically, you have to come in and wait in line. Now, there were 10 people with me. Everyone had to eat dinner before the comedy show. No one wants to stand in the line. It is a hassle. We FINALLY got inside, and had some tables shoved into
a corner by the door. All of us can’t even sit together. A bad view
of the stage, and you can’t even see everyone that you are trying to toast!

Did I mention that I called two times in an attempt to get a reserved
table? The trip wasn’t worth it. I don’t want to give up on this place;
maybe it’s just not a good place to take a large group. I am sure it would have been easier for just two getting in and having a good table. I will try one more time.

Legends wrapped up the evening. It was a fine way to end the night. There is reserved parking right up front! You can also call ahead for a table!
Excellent service, no long lines, no headaches! The DJ even took requests from Mandi and Erica Joy. Everyone in my group had fun. Great drinks, good table, wonderful parking, super service. This is a fine nightclub for dancing with friends.
