The Mind of Matt: On Sean Rock bands and some weekend clubbing

Movie man, rock fan and party animal Matt Smith found lots to report on from getting out around town this past weekend. Here's the latest:

We bounce on down to The Sports Page at 414 South Louisiana on Saturday night. You can call them at 372-1642. I had never even heard of this place; but, it was such a pleasant surprise. When you go inside, you are greeted like you just showed up at your cousin’s house. These people are real friendly. The food was very inexpensive. In fact, the food was so good and so cheap it seemed like we ate for free. Mandi and Erica Joy had the steak special. My buddy Mark tried the turkey sandwich. TJ had a grilled cheese. I opted for the cheeseburger. Everyone marveled at how quickly the food hit our table. Everything was fresh, hot and tasty.

We were there because Roland Gladden of the Arkansas Times had invited us.
One of his many music projects, Sean Rock and The Toltecs were playing. They just released a 12-track CD, “Somewhere From Now.” They played these original songs, and also throw in some Bruce Springsteen that I requested. This is good stuff, people! Check it out at www.myspace.com/seanrockandthetoltecs.

You can hear three tracks: “Across The Water,” “Hundred Feet Of Snow,” “I Don’t Ever Wanna,” and you can get the dates where they play. Hit it up for a listen – NOW!

After that show we headed on down to On The Rocks, again. Why? Because
these guys know how to run a bar! I have really just sung the praises of bartender Jeff Martin before. He is great. This guy makes a good drink, fast. Ask for him by name and tip PROFUSELY!

As it turned out, Jeff happened to be off work on Saturday, but Brad the manager stepped up to help us. He helped with parking and getting a table. Yes, you can reserve a table here!

I always enjoy just hanging out here with my friends. Angela was our waitress, and she ran around as always keeping our group soaking in drinks. We never waited for a drink. I think she needs to teach a class -- “ Bar waitress like Angela.” I know some people that could use it!
