Is Alabama warming to Houston Nutt?
People who know these things are convinced that Houston Nutt, through is agent Jimmy Sexton, has been politicking for the Alabama head coaching vacancy since the Tide fired Mike Shula.
Nutt publicly has denied interest in any job. When word that West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez had turned down Bama on Dec. 8 reached Nutt in Fayetteville, he seemed irritated at a reporter's questioning if he was interesting in the Crimson Tide job and said "I want to be the Arkansas coach."
But does he if the most prestigious football program in the Southeastern Conference finally comes calling for the SEC's coach of the year?
Word we get is that former Bama players have been against the school considering Nutt. Mal Moore, the Alabama athletic director, likes Nutt, but has to sell Nutt to several factions of power at Alabama that are making a mess of the coach-firing and coach-hiring process.
The big question this week is, has sports agent Jimmy Sexton been giving Bama the ol' bait-and-switch, pushing Nick Saban for several weeks when Saban was never a possibility for the Tide, while the Tide folks dreamed big dreams and fell off other candidates, then Sexton was able to push another client to Bama, Houston Nutt. Sexton, we're assured by sources, has been pushing very hard.
Nutt will have to win the Capital One Bowl Jan. 1 to move up in the Tide supporters' eyes, but know that Mal Moore has heard probably more than he wants to from Sexton that Nutt is the SEC coach of the year and Bama can have him.

Jim you have consistently been wrong about the hogs , their coach and anything else to do with the UA all season.
You are CLEARLY not dialed in, nor have you ever been, (Oh wait that's right you know Bazzell) to anything going on up on the hill.
Do us all a favor, stay away from something you CLEARLY know nothing about. You should stick to writing about cover charges at the local bars.
EDITOR: Are you confusing me with JR and Henry? I've written nothing of opinion about Houston Nutt and the Hogs all fall until now. I say if the Hogs win the bowl game, which is doubtful, Nutt is 50-50 to get the Bama job.

A plane associated with Bama (N75TP) called the Crimson Excel flew from Tuscaloosa to Drake Field Thursday morning, then flew to Chattanooga briefly before landing in Tuscaloosa and spending the afternoon there. The plane then went back to Fayetteville and only was on the ground 15 minutes (just long enough to drop someone off). This was the day, you might recall, that Houston Nutt decided to cancel practice because "practice was going so well". The same plane landed in West Virginia a couple of days before Rodriquez was offered the Bama job. Many people, including me, think this is too much of a coincidence and that Nutt interviewed and took a trip to Tuscaloosa to meet with representatives from the university.
I don't think Nutt is what Bama wants but he's on their list. Saban won't take it, Bama's just wasting time with him. One thing's certain - Nutt wants the job. He's made that clear, just as he did with Nebraska initially and later with LSU (which didn't want him).
