Molly Ringwald headed to Memphis for "Sweet Charity"
Molly Ringwald, whose best days apparently were her "Brat Pack" teen years in "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club," nevertheless is doing the national Broadway musical tour scene, starring in "Sweet Charity," which will be playing The Orpheum in Memphis Jan. 16-21.

Memphis, TN – The musical comedy hit SWEET CHARITY, starring film and television star MOLLY RINGWALD, comes to the Orpheum Theatre. SWEET CHARITY is directed by Scott Faris (South Pacific starring Robert Goulet) and choreographed by Tony® Award winner, Wayne Cilento (Wicked).
With a book by Neil Simon, based on an original screenplay by Federico Fellini, Tullio Pinelli and Ennio Plaiano, SWEET CHARITY is a funny, poignant and tender look at the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine, a dance hall hostess who always gives her heart and earnings to the wrong man.

MOLLY RINGWALD’s big screen success began with the romantic comedy Pretty In Pink. Other notable films include The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, The Pick-Up Artist starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Betsy’s Wedding. A diverse talent, Ringwald turned her sights to television and received critical acclaim for her portrayal of real-life AIDS victim Alison Gertz in Something To Live For: The Alison Gertz Story. She has returned to the stage in recent years and was seen in tick, tick…BOOM!, Enchanted April and received rave reviews as Sally Bowles in another Bob Fosse masterpiece, Cabaret.
SWEET CHARITY received three Tony Award nominations – Best Musical Revival, Best Choreography and Best Actress. The Wall Street Journal called it “a blast.” USA Today characterized Tony nominee Wayne Cilento’s choreography as “exhilarating!” The 2005 Broadway revival was directed by Walter Bobbie (Chicago).
SWEET CHARITY’S “first-rate score by Cy Coleman with charming lyrics by Dorothy Fields” (New York Times) includes the show-stopping numbers “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “Big Spender” and “Where Am I Going?” and is the story of one woman’s belief that despite adversity — all her dreams will come true.
