Eddie Sutton returns to LR for Tip-Off Luncheon

Former University of Arkansas coach Eddie Sutton will be back in Arkansas on Monday,  Jan. 8, to address the fledgling Downtown Tip-Off Club.

The club was created by Joe Kleine and others in a fashion similar to the Little Rock Touchdown Club, which has weekly football speakers. Monday's luncheon is at the Wyndham Riverfront Hilton beginning at 11:30 a.m. The club's first meeting Dec. 15 featured current UA coach Stan Heath and drew an estimated 200 people.

Luncheons also feature outstanding high school players recognized as the Arvest Players of the Week. Monday’s honorees will be Oklahoma State signee James Anderson from Junction City, and Arkansas LadyBacks signee Whitney Zachariason from Central Arkansas Christian. These two players, along with other weekly winners, will be eligible for the Arvest Player of the Year honors, which will be announced at the end-of-the season banquet featuring former SEC and NBA great Charles Barkley.

Future speakers will include Norm Stewart, Jimmy Dykes, Charlie Spoonhour and Marvin Delph. Luncheons will be held through March 19 at either the Wyndham or the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce Conference  Center. Four local charities will benefit from the club's formation (Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Arkansas, Jammin’ for Jackets, Juvenile Diabetes, and the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame).

Each meeting cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Annual membership dues are $40. Call 372-5959.
